Job Description
CSMART is looking for an Instructor (40 hours per week) with a Comp Ex certificate to support our Technical Department in delivering high quality training for personnel working in hazardous areas. In this role, you will combine your subject matter expertise with strong instructional skills to deliver Comp Ex modules, conduct assessments, and contribute to continuous improvement within our training portfolio.
To achieve and maintain the highest maritime standards, you will continuously develop your expertise and have the opportunity to specialize in areas such as Comp Ex, IEC/ISO, and industry regulations. Applicants must possess strong technical skills, a high degree of self-motivation, and the ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team.
The role focuses on training provided to cruise ship officers. You will contribute by bringing your technical expertise to the training center and sharing this knowledge with the training department staff members.
Key Responsibilities- Deliver training to shipboard technical staff.
- Deliver courses according to the CSMART course delivery process, including but not limited to delivering Comp Ex training modules at industry compliant standards.
- Act as a representative of the corporate safety culture and promote this attitude with candidates.
- Develop and update courses and procedures to be implemented onboard ships.
- Keep up to date with current practices, technology, Carnival procedures, and international regulations.
- Liaise with the Operations Support team and other instructors to ensure everything is prepared prior to the start of courses.
- Provide technical support, coaching, and mentorship to participants.
- Manage equipment including simulators and address any deficiencies.
- Stay abreast of the latest developments in teaching techniques and the use of simulators as a teaching aid.
- Continuously develop expertise in your chosen specialization area to serve as a trusted subject matter expert and specialized trainer.
- Review relevant case studies for the subject being taught.
- Understudy other courses at CSMART.
- Visit ships to stay updated with ship operations with a focus on the subject being taught.
- Minimum 5 years of verifiable hazardous area work experience, or the ability to demonstrate sufficient technical knowledge during interview.
- Current and valid Comp Ex certification applicable to the modules delivered or assessed.
- Proven leadership experience in the maritime industry (minimum 5 years).
- Cruise ship experience highly preferred; experience with Carnival Corporation brands is an asset.
- Analytical and structured thinker with strong problem‑solving skills.
- Experience in teaching/instructing would be an asset.
- Fluent in written and spoken English.
- Proficient in Microsoft 365 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and knowledgeable about computers and network software.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; able to effectively convey information.
- Ability to navigate complex social dynamics and work well in multicultural team environments.
- Demonstrates a growth mindset and passion for developing others.
- Works well independently and as part of a team.
- Open, engaged, and committed to continuous learning and improvement.
