United Infrastructure is a UK-based infrastructure services company delivering critical energy, power, water, telecoms and social infrastructure projects. Following the acquisition of Wood’s UK Transmission & Distribution business, United Infrastructure has strengthened its capabilities in power engineering, construction and asset optimisation, supporting grid resilience and the transition to a low‑carbon energy system. The company partners with public and private clients to deliver safe, sustainable and future‑ready infrastructure across the UK.

Job Description

Due to significant growth across our Transmission and Distribution business, Wood is seeking an established Senior Quantity Surveyor to support our growing workload within the Commercial area of our business. This role provides flexibility as a hybrid role, working between home, site, and ideally our Glasgow office. If you are an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor, eager to work with a dynamic team and keen to take on new challenges, we encourage you to apply.

We offer a supportive work environment, competitive salary, and the opportunity to work on exciting projects.

Wood Transmission and Distribution is seeking a Senior Quantity Surveyor to join the Commercial area of our growing business. As a leading provider of engineering and construction services to the UK transmission and distribution sector, we are at the forefront of net zero 2050 with a secured workstream for years to come.

This role is perfect for an established and commercially minded Senior Quantity Surveyor from a civil infrastructure or construction background, although not essential, with a wide range of projects under their belt who is looking for a new high‑profile challenge. The successful candidate will be experienced in cost & change control, contract & subcontract administration, and project reporting, and will be assigned to a contract with SSE who are a client.

There will be opportunity for future progression and to work on further Scotland‑based transmission and distribution projects thereafter. Sound commercial judgement, flexibility, the ability to collaborate with others via MS Teams and travel to sites across Scotland is key.

You will provide commercial support concerning financial and contractual matters arising through the management of our client project. This role involves post‑award contract administration, provision of commercial/contract deliverables, implementation of project plans; undertaking costs analysis, preparation of cash‑flow forecasts, developing subcontracting commercial strategy as required; contributing to internal project reviews and developing project forecasts. You will enjoy the challenges of the project just starting construction, monitoring execution to tight deadlines, identifying Wood entitlement and managing performance within budgets.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to support our growing workload within overhead lines and contribute to the increased network capacity required to deliver the UK government’s pathway to 2030 and the transition to net zero. This is your chance to be part of a team that is making a real difference in the world.

Responsibilities
  • Post‑award contract administration including ensuring payment applications and invoices are prepared in a timely and accurate manner, ensuring full contract entitlement, ensuring scope of delivery is understood by the contract management team and change is captured in contract variations/amendments, commercial administration files are established and maintained, and correspondence is properly documented.
  • Timely provision of commercial/contract deliverables such as bonds, PCGs, evidence of insurance and reporting.
  • Development, implementation and maintenance of project commercial plans including commercial strategy, subcontracting commercial strategy, and profit improvement plans.
  • Regular cost analysis to: maximise recoverable costs, minimise allowable costs, identify areas for cost saving, and ensure adequate cost accruals and provisions are in place.
  • Ensure that all commercial related DOA matters are correctly approved and documented.
