Position: Fire Crash Rescue Officer 7-E9

Job Description

The employee serves as an intermediate or experienced level officer that performs emergency operations in accordance with (IAW) United States Air Force (USAF), Air National Guard (ANG), State of Michigan, and locally developed guidance in accordance with Air Force instruction 32‑2001 Finans distr CF, AFI
32‑2001 ANGSUP1 and Air National Guard Appendix 24 W912JB
‑16‑1024. Uses and maintains specialized firefighting tools and equipment. Provides fire and emergency response, medical, technical rescue and fire prevention services. Conducts and attends training in firefighting, medical, crash/rescue and technical rescue practices and procedures. Uses telecommunications systems, dispatching of emergency vehicles, information receiving, processing, and dissemination.

Provide training for fire & emergency services personnel and deployed units in training (UIT). Ensures readiness of assigned vehicles and equipment. Participates in training and exercises of various types.

Participates in physical fitness and agility program. Uses established automated databases, programs and data processing equipment. Maintains installation facility and aircraft pre‑fire plans. Other duties as deemed necessary by the Fire Chief.

Education

Educational level typically acquired through completion of high school.

Experience
  • Fire/Crash Rescue Officer 7 – No specific type or amount is required.
  • Fire/Crash Rescue Officer 8 – One year experience related to fire/crash rescue methods and procedures as they relate to military aircraft and munitions including one year equivalent to a Fire/Crash Rescue Officer 7.
  • Fire/Crash Rescue Officer E9 – Two years experience related to fire/crash rescue methods and procedures as they relate to military aircraft and munitions including one year equivalent to a Fire/Crash Rescue Officer 8.
  • Fire/Crash Rescue Officer 7‑10 – Two years’ experience in an organized fire department (state, county, township, or municipality) or as a member of a fire department may substitute for one year of experience.
  • Firecasting Crash Rescue Officer 8 – Possession of an associate’s degree in Fire Technology or related science may be substituted for the experience requirements.
  • Fire/Crash Rescue Officer 7 – Successful completion and certification of Firefighter 1 & 2, Hazmat Operations or the Michigan Fire Council’s Firefighting course.
  • Fire/Crash Rescue Officer 7‑10 – Successful completion and certification of the Training Council’s Fire Fighting I course (including the obstacle course segment) or an equivalent program certified by the Michigan Fire Fighters Training Council.
  • Fire/Crash Rescue Officer 8 – Successful completion and certification of Department of Defense Aircraft Rescue Fire Fighting, Firefighter 1 & 2, Hazmat Operations or the Michigan Fire Councils Firefighting course.
  • Fire/Crash Rescue Officers 8 – Must satisfactorily complete the required Air National Guard (ANG) Fire Protection Specialist Course OR equivalent required International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC) certifications OR DOD certifications [Firefighter II, Airport Fire Fighter, Haz‑M‑Mat Operations, Driver/Operator Pumper, ARFF] and meet the physical and mental standards of the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 1001 and NFPA 1003, and other specialized training requirements prior to reallocation to the experienced level.
  • Fire/Crash Rescue Officer E9 – Successful completion and certification of Department of Defense Fire Fighter 1 & 2, Hazmat Operations, Aircraft Rescue Fire Fighting (ARFF), ARFF Driver Operator, Mobile Water Supply (MWS), Pumper Operator and have obtained an Emergency Response medical License.
  • Positions in this class are test‑designated and subject to pre‑appointment, random‑selection, and post‑accident, and reasonable suspicion drug and alcohol testing.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a common access card (CAC).
