SUMMARY

****$30,000 for qualified candidates****

This position performs diagnostic ultrasound imaging including a variety of procedures (invasive and non‑invasive) ranging from a variety of biopsies, routine OB/GYN, vascular venous and arterial, abdomen, small body parts to intra‑cavity and color Doppler. The technologist must have strong critical thinking, interpersonal skills, and ability to problem‑solve while assuming responsibility for the safety, mental and physical comfort of patients while they are in the technologist's care.

Strong interpersonal and communication skills are necessary to deal effectively with and instruct patients who may be under physical/emotional stress; ability to comprehend and follow physicians verbal orders and follow imaging protocols. Technologist will also need to be able to work productively and effectively within a complex environment of inpatient, emergency department and outpatient circumstances by being able to multitask with changing priorities.

The Ultrasound Technologist is responsible for obtaining information such as patient identity, history, reviewing medical records for appropriateness of the exam or procedure and documentation accuracy. The technologist must maintain a high standard of medical ethics, be self‑motivated to pursue lifelong learning to increase level of understanding and knowledge of the field, disease, and new procedures as they evolve. Provides excellent customer service.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • (60%) Produces quality images by selecting the appropriate technical factors, equipment and transducer settings. Verifies patient orders and reviews appropriateness for exam, obtains patient history, explains standard procedures, and addresses patient concerns to foster a sense of comfort and confidence to ensure the needs of individual patients are met. Determines if images are satisfactory for diagnostic purposes while using independent judgment during the sonographic exam to accurately differentiate between normal and pathologic findings.
  • (20%) The technologist is responsible for the independent operation of sonographic equipment, performing and communicating findings of diagnostic examinations, responsible for daily operations of the department, patient schedule, equipment maintenance, the report of equipment failures, and quality assessment (QA). Maintains a clean work environment and adequate supplies.
  • (20%) Responsible for appropriate sterilization techniques along with documentation accuracy of logs, charts, forms, and records in paper and electronic formats. Complies with all Joint Commission, federal, state, and local regulatory laws, standards, and protocols.

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
    • Analyze sonograms, synthesize sonographic information and medical history, and communicate findings to the appropriate physician.
    • Ability to remain focused and flexible in a fast‑paced environment.
    • Assist in instruction and training of residents, new hires, and students.
    • Provides ultrasound guidance for biopsies/aspirations.
    • Prepares equipment and supplies; observes sterile techniques; assists physician, NP, RN, and other clinicians as needed.
    • Assumes responsibility for the safety, mental and physical comfort of patients while they are in the ultrasound technologist’s care.
    • Delivers quality patient care, including the use of universal precautions, ensuring patient confidentiality, and practicing appropriate medical ethics.
    • Must be able to effectively communicate orally, written, by telephone, with staff, physicians, and patients.
    • Maintains a clean work environment and adequate supplies.
    • Provides excellent customer service.
    • Always demonstrates professionalism and courtesy toward all employees, physicians, associated staff and My Michigan Health customers and potential customers.
    • Cooperates with other personnel to achieve departmental and hospital goals; attends/participates in departmental and medical center meetings.
