Responsibilities- Greets the public in a professional, cheerful manner. (10%)
- Answers telephone and directs inquiries to appropriate persons. (15%)
- Draws blood properly with minimum discomfort and rarely misses a vein on a patient. (20%)
- Positively identifies and labels specimens by following patient and specimen identification policies; uses computer to register and accession specimens. (15%)
- Knows various needles, anticoagulants, special handling, and preparation of tests that are performed. (15%)
- Assists with inventory and putting away supplies. (5%)
- Assists with specimen processing. (5%)
- Performs other related miscellaneous duties. (15%)
Participates in Continuous Quality Improvement as required by the Hospital and the job description.
Understands and is accountable for the Hospital's customer service standards.

Education:
High school graduate or equivalent.

Experience:
Completion of a formal phlebotomy program that includes both classroom and practical (on‑the‑job) experience or equivalent education or experience. Nursing students with at least one completed semester in the nursing program who are willing to obtain their phlebotomy certification within 12 months of hire or transfer.

- Must use electronic data processing equipment in performing daily duties.
- Must be able to work with neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric populations.
- Exposure to stressful situations, including trauma, grief, and death.
- Ability to wear personal protective equipment that includes latex materials or appropriate substitute.
- Must be able to move freely about the facility with or without an assisted device and perform all functions of the job as outlined.
- Overall vision and hearing necessary with or without assistive devices.
- May require frequent postural changes such as stooping, kneeling, or crouching.
- Some exposure to blood‑borne pathogens and other potentially infectious material; must follow blood borne pathogen and TB testing requirements.
- Must handle multiple tasks, get along with others, work independently, attend regularly, and stay awake.
- Overall dexterity required for handling, reaching, grasping, fingering, and feeling; may require repetition of these movements.
- Physical demand level:
Light. Must be able to occasionally lift or carry 11‑20 lbs; frequently 10 lbs.
