Perm - Occupational Therapist (OT) - Outpatient (Days) - Alpena, MI
Salary Range: $32.00+ per hour (goes up based on experience) with $14,000 sign‑on bonus for a 2‑year commitment.
Job SummaryOccupational Therapist I who delegates responsibility to OT Assistants and Aides. Patient‑focused activities utilizing assessment, planning, intervention and evaluation in accordance with occupational therapy standards, physician orders and governing policies. Primarily outpatient, occasionally float to acute care.
Responsibilities- Evaluates patient function by performing formal or informal testing to determine skeletal, neurological, respiratory, cardiovascular, developmental, social, and cognitive functions.
- Develops goal‑specific treatment regimes based on assessment data and patient tolerance; submits written treatment regime to be included in the plan of treatment authorized by and coordinated with the physician.
- Updates plan of care as needed; co‑signs verbal orders received by OT assistants as necessary.
- Devises a treatment schedule that is frequency and duration specific, discussed with patient/family/caregiver and coordinated with clinical staff.
- Educates patient, family, and/or caregiver on pathology, alternatives, prognosis, and rationale for treatment through rest, exercise, modalities and other interventions.
- Provides supervision for OT Assistants, Home Health Aides, and students per affiliate and regulatory standards.
- Recommends adaptive/supportive equipment based on assessment; contacts representative or supplier to place order and assists in securing equipment.
- Documents patient/family/caregiver responses to treatment and changes in condition per documentation policies and regulatory agencies.
- Completes daily documentation necessary for billing procedures per affiliate policy.
- Provides treatment intervention and demonstrates competence across therapy areas.
- Educates patient/family/caregiver using effective teaching methods.
- Communicates effectively with internal and external customers to maximize quality of patient care, coordinating with interdisciplinary team members.
- Promotes education and development among staff, students, and other health care providers.
- Promotes process improvement and assists with program development.
- Participates in team conferences and interdisciplinary meetings.
- Promotes occupational therapy within My Michigan Health service area, providing community education.
- Functions as case manager for assigned cases.
- Demonstrates commitment to My Michigan Health mission and collaborates with team.
- Maintains confidentiality of patient and affiliate information.
- Participates in further learning opportunities as required.
- Exposure to stressful situations, public contact, trauma, grief and death.
- Wearing personal protective equipment including latex or substitutes.
- Movement within facility with or without an assist device.
- Normal vision and hearing.
- Sitting, standing or walking for long periods; frequent postural changes (stooping, kneeling, crouching).
- Exposure to blood‑borne pathogens; adherence to testing requirements.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks independently with consistent attendance.
- Dexterity for handling, reaching, grasping, etc.
Medium. Will occasionally lift or carry 21‑50 lbs (0‑33% of the workday), 20 lbs (34‑66% of the workday), and regularly walk, stand, push, pull, or lift 10 lbs (67‑100%).
Certifications and Licenses- BLS – Basic Life Support within one month of hire.
- NBCOT – NB Certification in Occupational Therapy.
- OTR – Occupational Therapist.
- Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Therapy or related field.
- Preferred:
More than one year of experience; new graduates acceptable. - Successful completion of My Michigan Health orientation and new‑hire competency.
- Strong interpersonal skills for effective verbal and written communication in English.
- Ability to work independently with problem solving, organization, time management, and initiative.
- OSHA compliance annually per Exposure Control Plan.
- Exposure to communicable diseases and correct use of PPE.
- Capability to perform essential job functions with reasonable accommodation.
- Ability to teach selected treatment routines to professionals and non‑professionals.
- AOTA membership preferred.
