Position OverviewThe Senior Tax Manager is responsible for managing complex tax engagements, overseeing tax workflow, and providing leadership and mentorship within the tax department. This role works closely with firm leadership, serves as a technical resource to staff, and ensures high‑quality tax compliance and advisory services.
Key Responsibilities- Perform and oversee a wide range of complex tax‑related engagements
- Review individual, business, and other complex tax returns
- Approve tax returns, excluding those involving highly specialized issues
- Supervise, mentor, and develop tax staff and senior accountants
- Manage tax workflow and departmental priorities in coordination with partners
- Review and prepare tax projections for complex situations
- Serve as a technical resource for tax staff
- Assist with client‑facing meetings and advisory discussions
- Review tax accruals and related work papers
- Monitor and communicate changes in tax laws and regulations firmwide
- Analyze tax notices and draft responses; represent clients before taxing authorities as needed
- Oversee preparation and filing of sales & use, property, and other recurring tax filings
- Participate in tax department administrative initiatives
- Evaluate staff productivity and performance; provide feedback to firm leadership
- Establish standards for tax staff and support ongoing professional development
- Build strong working relationships with partners, peers, and staff
- Demonstrate initiative and commitment to professional and firm growth
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related field
- Active CPA or EA license required
- Master's degree in Taxation preferred
- Minimum 5 years of tax experience in a public accounting firm
- At least 2 years of supervisory or review experience
- Proven people management skills with a focus on coaching and mentorship
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Collaborative mindset with the ability to lead and influence teams
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and common tax and accounting software
- Experience with tax provisions and FIN 48 analysis preferred
