PositionSummary
The Skilled Laborer plays a critical role in supporting site development operations, including grading, trenching, and installation of underground utilities for residential communities. This position requires hands‑on experience with heavy civil construction tasks and the ability to work collaboratively with equipment operators, foremen, and subcontractors to ensure safe, efficient job‑site performance.
Required Skills- Proficient in the use of hand and power tools (shovels, compactors, saws, etc.)
- Ability to perform physical labor in various outdoor conditions
- Familiarity with trench safety, pipe laying, grading, and general civil site work
- Ability to read and understand construction plans and stakeout marks
- Basic understanding of job‑site safety practices and OSHA requirements
- Ability to work under direction and independently with minimal supervision
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Experience working on residential or commercial site development projects
- Knowledge of utility installation (storm, sewer, water)
- Familiarity with GPS or laser leveling equipment
- CDL or ability to operate light construction equipment (skid steer, mini‑excavator)
- High school diploma or GED required
- 2–4 years of experience in site development or heavy civil construction
- Prior experience working with grading, trenching, or underground utilities
- OSHA 10‑hour certification preferred
- First aid/CPR certification a plus
- Ability to provide effective verbal and written communication
- Meet deadlines with minimal supervision
- Must possess a valid driver’s license and maintain a clean driving record
- Ability to travel to various job sites as required
- Days and hours of work vary based on job size and location (40–55 hours weekly); evening and weekend work may be required as duties demand
- Familiar with working in the Florida Panhandle region
- Must successfully pass pre‑employment (post‑offer) drug screen
- Constant physical effort, including standing, for at least eight hours per day
- Must be able to stand for extended periods, walk, bend, kneel, stoop, crouch, crawl, and climb as required to perform key duties
- Frequently work with hands extended overhead, sometimes in conjunction with the operation of hand and power tools
- Able to lift and carry, on a frequent basis, at least 50 pounds and, at times, up to 90 pounds
- Manual dexterity to hand‑carry generators, lumber, construction materials, forms, power tools, and hand tools
- Ability to climb on and off heavy mobile equipment safely
- Frequently walk on uneven surfaces, including natural ground
- Able to work in high, precarious places as well as in extreme heat and extreme cold
- Work environment periodically exposes employees to moderate to loud levels of noise, grease, and dust typically associated with a construction project
