This position will be responsible for managing a team of claims examiners possessing varied experience levels. This position will oversee the resolution of claims with low to high complexity and provide direction, coaching, and training. This position will report to the Senior Director of claims and be responsible for conveying the organization’s objectives and priorities to staff and measuring progress towards stated goals.

Job Description
  • Confirms coverage of claims by reviewing policies and documents submitted in support of claims
  • Directs and monitors assignments of new loss activity for environmental claims
  • Reviews and approves correspondence and reports including coverage position letters and Large Loss Reports
  • Reviews and approves reserves and settlements in excess of the authority of the handling specialist
  • Make recommendations concerning reserve changes to Director or Senior Management
  • Participates in review and discussion of large loss activity in the environmental book with interested stakeholders (UW, PL, Actuarial, Executive Management)
  • Ensures that team adheres to Fair Claims Practices regulations and internal performance objectives
  • Assesses and evaluates individual specialist and team performance, provides feedback and develops training needs
  • Prepares and distributes reports by collecting and summarizing information
  • Assists in preparation of budgets, evaluation of expenses and assesses resource needs
  • Fosters and encourages strong relationships with internal stakeholders (UW, PL, Actuarial)
  • Promotes and enhances strong relationships with customers and channel partners
  • Participates in special projects as requested
  • Travels to other claim offices, mediations, trials, and conferences as required
Job Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience
  • JD, advanced degree, or focused technical degree a plus
  • Must have or be eligible to receive claims adjuster license
  • Successful achievement of industry designations (INS, IEA, AIC, ARM, SCLA, CPCU) or I‑Lead or other Management Training
  • Minimum of 10 years of claims experience or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Prior claims management experience strongly preferred
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Strong organization and time management skills
  • Ability to deliver outstanding customer service
  • Intermediate skills in Microsoft Office products (Excel, Outlook, Power Point, Word)
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Strong desire for continuous improvement
  • A willingness to train and develop more junior associates to prepare them for more senior‑level claims handling roles
