Surety Claims Counsel

Overview

IAT Insurance Group has an immediate need for a Surety Claims Counsel. This role can be located at any IAT location with an option to work remote. The position reports to the VP, Claims Counsel and works closely with the SVP, Legal.

• Interact with attorneys, claimants, owners and other parties, as well as field management staff to resolve claims issues and ensure cost-effective solutions.
• Draft and negotiate documents for each situation, such as Surety Takeover and/or Completion Agreements, settlement agreements, releases, correspondence, reports and exposure analyses.
• Collaborate closely with underwriters in assigned regions.
• Review and analyze work in progress schedules, costs to complete, accounts payable and receivable ledgers.
• Supervise the work of outside counsel and consultants’ bills before submitting for approval.
• Recommend reserves.
• Manage litigation and salvage recovery actions.
• Analyze payment bond claims and make recommendations regarding payment.
• Select, develop, motivate and train staff to achieve objectives.
• Maintain awareness of developments in statutes, regulations, and caselaw in assigned regions.
• Monitor and evaluate employee performance.
• Other job-related duties as required.

• JD with 4+ years of relevant Surety Claims and/or Construction Law experience.
• Licensed insurance adjuster or ability to obtain license in assigned regions, or license with reciprocity to assigned regions.
• Ability to travel as needed.
• Authorized to work in the United States and not require VISA sponsorship for employment now or in the future.

Please note the annual gross salary range associated with this posting is $82,960 – $180,450. The range represents the base salary; total compensation may include a base salary, performance-based bonus opportunities, 401(k) match, profit-sharing opportunities, and more.
