Overview

The Emergency Department RN Clinical Nurse is a proactive and essential member of the interdisciplinary emergency care team. This role ensures high-quality, safe, and timely care for patients experiencing urgent, emergent, and life-threatening conditions. The RN practices within the Shared Governance Model, the Professional Practice Model, and evidence-based standards.

The nurse consistently upholds the Georgia Professional Nurse Practice Act and ANA Scope & Standards, advocating for patients and supporting service excellence goals.

Core Responsibilities & Essential Functions1. Exemplary Practice and Outcomes
  • Performs the complete Nursing Process—assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, evaluation—for patients with diverse emergency presentations.
  • Provides patient-centered, relationship-based care tailored to age, gender, cultural background, and specific emergency conditions.
  • Communicates effectively with patients and families, offering clear updates and education during fast-paced situations.
  • Delivers care using current emergency clinical practice standards and evidence-based protocols.
2. Teamwork and Collaboration
  • Coordinates safe and efficient patient care using interdisciplinary communication, including bedside reports, trauma activations, and case reviews.
  • Demonstrates teamwork and contributes to a respectful, inclusive work environment.
  • Participates in performance improvement, quality initiatives, and shared governance at all levels.
  • Ensures timely and accurate documentation in the electronic health record.
3. Professional Development & Initiative
  • Completes all required competencies, mandatory education, and emergency-specific training.
  • Serves as a preceptor or mentor for new nurses, students, or team members as needed.
  • Engages in professional development and supports the creation of a healthy work environment.
4. Evidence-Based Practice & Research
  • Promotes evidence-based practice and participates in research and performance improvement activities.
  • Upholds legal, regulatory, and accreditation standards including TJC Patient Safety Goals.
  • Assists with data collection and uses available evidence to inform clinical decisions and improve patient outcomes.
5. Resources & Support
  • Anticipates care needs across the emergency care continuum—from triage to stabilization, treatment, and disposition.
  • Collaborates with physicians, care managers, and the interdisciplinary team to improve outcomes and reduce preventable complications.
  • Uses resources effectively and supports improvements in ED workflows and processes.
  • Performs other duties as assigned and adheres to organizational policies and code of conduct.
Required Minimum Education
  • Graduate of an accredited/approved school of nursing required
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred
Required Licensure & Certifications

(All required upon hire unless otherwise noted)

  • Registered Nurse (RN) – Single State or Multi-State Compact
  • Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) – Preferred
    (Instructor/Provisional versions accepted where applicable)
Required Minimum Experience
  • Emergency Department experience preferred
  • Direct patient care experience required
Required Skills
