Job Summary

The Maintenance – Process Control Technician is responsible for performing all duties defined by Maintenance supervision. This includes, but is not limited to, installation, programming, maintenance and repair of all assigned process control equipment, components, and systems such as raw materials processing, paper making, paper converting equipment, electric motors, air compressor systems, process valves and piping systems, and material handling equipment.

Responsibilities
  • Adhere to proper work procedures to ensure safe execution of job tasks.
  • Complete all duties assigned by supervision promptly and efficiently.
  • Perform calibrations of various process equipment and maintain documentation for instrument calibration and system changes.
  • Work in cooperation with various trades to complete assigned tasks.
  • Positively interact with co‑workers, supervisors, engineers, contracted resources, and customers, and contribute to team efforts.
  • Maintain inventory and good repair of all assigned shop tools and equipment, and consistently maintain good housekeeping in work area(s).
  • Manage Process Technician Work Order Backlog. In Asset Essentials, create and close work orders and manage the PM schedule.
  • With minimal assistance, perform preventative maintenance on all Process Control Systems.
  • Must be able to troubleshoot problems and perform repairs on Process Control Systems.
  • Ensure compliance with industry and safety standards for automation systems.
  • Assist in projects from inception to completion with direction from Project Leads.
  • Remain flexible and available to work any shift arrangement, including overtime as required.
  • Provide on‑call availability outside regular hours for operational emergencies.
  • New hires must be able to be on the night call list within 6 months of acceptance of the position without supervision.

  • Basic computer skills required for successful completion and documentation of assigned tasks.

  • Troubleshooting ability and understanding of process control systems.
  • Understanding of control system wiring (low voltage) and ability to troubleshoot using a multimeter.
  • Basic understanding of Allen‑Bradley AC Drives.
  • Able to lead/mentor Maintenance Tech I.
Qualifications – Required Proficiency
  • Able to make in‑field repairs to miscellaneous control systems, i.e., air, stock, and process water.
  • Understanding of paper making process control systems.
  • Assist in programming and modifying control logic under supervision.
  • Ability to read blueprint drawings, schematics, and diagrams of electrical components.
  • Demonstrates ability to use various hand, power, and machine tools safely.
  • Able to assist and learn how to program and maintain the Allen‑Bradley PLC platform.
  • Able to assist and learn how to program and maintain Wonderware InTouch Suite.
  • Understanding of hydraulic system equipment, technology, controls, and applications.
  • Understanding of the properties of control system equipment used in the paper making process and converting, including but not limited to: valves, electric motors, flow tubes, dryers, PLC, DCS, ISRA Inspection Systems, various instruments, etc.
  • Hoisting and rigging equipment methods, and applications.
  • Understanding of mill compressed air systems and related components.
  • Understanding of mechanical principles, practices, methods, and procedures.
  • Understanding of fire protection systems within the mill and related buildings.
Qualifications – General
  • Trade school, high school diploma or equivalent.
  • 1–2 years of experience in an industrial setting.
  • Willingness and ability to climb and work off ladders and scaffolding.
  • Willing and able to advance to Maintenance Tech III and beyond.
