The Senior Estimator is responsible for completing estimate take-off of electrical drawings while ensuring they are per local and state national electrical codes, as well as in compliance with contract documents of new and/or existing project(s).
Essential Functions / Responsibilities- Perform complete estimates on large to complex projects.
- Supervise and coordinate the estimating team in the take-off process for a complete and thorough estimate.
- Perform or approve calculations and electrical design for design-build projects.
- Read and interpret contract documents.
- Pre-bid reviews.
- Identify cost-effective means to perform work and increase competitiveness.
- Prepare and submit RFI’s (Request for Information) during the bid process.
- Set up breakdown charts, fixture schedules, and switch gear schedules for the new project(s).
- Prepare the scope of work.
- Request, receive and evaluate material quotations from suppliers or vendors.
- Request, receive and evaluate quotations from subcontractors.
- Participate in final negotiations to secure contracts and/or commitments from clients.
- Participate in the Business Development of new clients.
- Attend and perform job turnover meetings.
- Develop sub-job breakdown and perform construction estimate.
- Perform change orders as needed.
- Prepare and submit a request for clarifications.
- Supervise the work of Estimator Level I, II, and III.
- Periodically attend and assist the project manager in performing end-of-month job surveys.
- Assist in the development of new estimating procedures.
- Assist in achieving the department’s sales and gross margin objectives.
- Acquire additional training as needed to improve communication and leadership skills.
This position directly supervises employees and carries out supervisory responsibilities per the organization's policies, procedures, and applicable laws. Responsibilities include training employees, planning, assigning, and directing work, appraising performance, rewarding and disciplining employees, addressing complaints, and resolving problems.
Required Education And Experience- Four plus (4+) years’ experience in Electrical Estimating, or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Can perform complete electrical take-offs for all types of projects and electrical calculations for design-build projects.
- Ability to apply the National Electrical Code in design-build calculations.
- Ability to read and interpret contract documents and specifications.
- Basic advanced skills with Accubid, various Estimating software, and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Knowledge of basic mathematical operations and calculations to calculate labor, materials, and/or cost estimates for projects and work orders.
- Must have the ability to effectively read, write, and communicate in English at a 12th-grade level.
- Must possess a valid Florida Driver’s license in good standing.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Degree/Diploma in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture or related field.
- Bilingual.
- Journeyman or Master Electrician License.
