The Role

HSDC is seeking a Lecturer/Teacher of Design and Technology to ensure outstanding success and progression through the delivery of inspirational teaching, learning and assessment.

An AQA A Level Design and Technology Teacher is responsible for delivering high-quality teaching that enables students to develop advanced knowledge, technical understanding, and practical skills in Product Design. The role involves planning and delivering engaging lessons that align with the AQA Design and Technology specification, preparing students for both written examinations and the Non-Exam Assessment (NEA).

Key responsibilities include teaching core topics such as materials and their applications, manufacturing processes, design theory, ergonomics, anthropometrics, sustainability, systems and control, modern industrial and commercial practices, and the work of influential designers and design movements. The teacher would support students in applying technical knowledge to solve real-world design problems through creative and iterative design processes.

Responsibilities
  • Planning effectively and delivering high quality teaching, learning, assessment and support, leading to excellent attendance, retention and achievement.
  • To deliver formal scheduled teaching duties, tutorials (as appropriate) and student assessment.
  • To record, share and regularly monitor student progress using College information systems.
  • To prepare learning plans schemes of work, keep relevant records and undertake all administration relevant to teaching duties.
  • To attend parents’ evenings, marketing and promotional events.
Requirements
  • Level 5 or equivalent Teaching Qualification such as Certificate in Education or PGCE or willingness to work towards this.
  • High level of specialist knowledge of the subject area
  • At least 2 years’ experience in teaching the subject area to full-time or part-time students (Desirable).
  • Degree in relevant subject (Desirable)
