Class B Truck Technician is responsible for repairs to customer trucks in a timely and proficient manner. Technician will perform medium duty through class 7 and 8 heavy‑duty trucks with moderate supervision. At times may be asked to assist in training of less experienced technicians in repairs, overhauls and rebuild. This position is considered an experienced technician.
Major Duties and Responsibilities- Maintain safe working environment and follow safety procedures
- Perform mechanical repairs on medium‑duty and heavy‑duty trucks
- Perform routine inspections/safety inspections on trucks
- Repair and/or replace damaged and defective parts on trucks
- Inspect, test and diagnose mechanical and electrical faults
- Perform all mechanical repairs, maintenance, overhauls and rebuilds with moderate supervision
- Use equipment such as diagnostic software, OEM specialty tools and other specialized tooling to perform repairs
- Diagnose and repair fuel systems, emissions systems and other complex systems
- Read and understand repair orders
- Be able to use problem‑solving skills when issues arise during repair
- Communicate with Shop Foreman and Manager on the repair process, keeping supervisors aware of progress and any issue that may arise
- Submit required paperwork or documentation to Shop Foreman or Service Manager
- Participate in all training programs that are made available
- Keeps current on new products and product updates
- Maintains professional appearance
- Attend scheduled shop meetings
- Other tasks as assigned

EducationHigh School diploma or GED; or related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Intermediate to advanced computer skills with fundamental computer operations, spreadsheets, database, and e‑mail.
Language SkillsAbility to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one‑on‑one and small group situations to customers, clients and other employees of the organization.
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before customers or employees of organization.
Mathematical SkillsAbility to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio and percent and interpret bar graphs.
Ability to apply concepts of basic math/algebra and geometry.
Reasoning AbilityAbility to apply common sense understanding to carry out repair instructions. Ability to deal with standardized situations along with more complex situations.
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
Certificates, Licenses, RegistrationsOEM Certification preferred (Caterpillar, Cummins, Paccar).
Valid driver's license preferred but not required. CDL preferred but not required. Must meet insurability requirements to drive any customer or company vehicles. CDL required to drive any vehicle requiring CDL.
TravelOn occasion, a Class B Truck Technician may be asked to work at one of MPG's other dealership locations. Technician may be asked to attend training course requiring travel including overnight stay.
