Sign-On Bonus for Surgical Technologists! We are offering a sign-on bonus for full-time Surgical Technologist positions. Commit to 3 years and receive $30,000.
- Prepare patients for surgery by wash, shave, and ensure aseptic incision sites. May transport patients to the operating room, help position them on the operating table, and cover them with sterile surgical drapes.
- Demonstrate excellent communication skills and collaborate with the surgeons, specialty team members, and other departments. Serve as a resource for staff and other disciplines. Identifies process improvement opportunities and assists in implementation.
- Assist with hemostasis using techniques such as clamping and/or cauterizing vessels or tissue, tying and/or ligating clamped vessels or tissue, applying hemostatic clips, and placing local hemostatic agents.
- Assume responsibility under the direction of the Clinician for all repairs, ordering, and maintenance of supplies, equipment, lasers, and instrumentation related to the specialty service. Assist the Clinician in supervising the use of supplies and equipment for patient care and safety in all procedures.
- Competencies include equipment and procedures related to fracture tables, head/body stabilizers, C-arm extensions, and other equipment as needed. Evaluate patient positioning after procedures and report any issues to the surgeon.
- Support cost containment in the use of materials and equipment.
- Provide visualization of the operative site through appropriate placement and securing of retractors, packing with sponges, digital manipulation of tissue, suctioning, irrigating, sponging, and managing suture materials. Ensure proper body mechanics to prevent obstruction of the surgeon's view.
- Position the patient to achieve the best exposure for the procedure, padding points of pressure, and maintaining patient comfort and safety. Ensure circulation is not impaired; tourniquets may be required for some procedures.
- Close wound layers (fascia, subcutaneous, and skin) as directed by the surgeon. Be familiar with different sutures and suturing techniques.
- Demonstrate initiative in problem-solving related to patient and technical issues to improve operating room function and operation.
- Assist with wound closure techniques and postoperative care per surgeon's directive, including closure of skin with sutures or staples and postoperative local anesthetic administration as directed.
- Participate in volume replacement or autotransfusion techniques as appropriate; apply wound dressings and secure drainage systems as needed.
- Complete a formal surgical technician program and hold or pursue certification as a Certified First Assist (CFA) through NBSTSA or ABSA within one year of hire/transfer. Maintain Basic Life Support (BLS) for healthcare providers, including CPR where applicable.
- Cert Surgical Technician or First Assist through NBSTSA or ABSA to be obtained within one year of hire/transfer date.
