Registered Nurse (Casual) – T14 Surgical Trauma/Oncology

UPMC Altoona is seeking a Casual Registered Nurse for our T14 Surgical Trauma/Oncology unit. This is a per diem casual position with variable shifts. The role is Unionized (SEIU). Compensation: $32/hour.

• Provide direct care:
  Use nursing protocols and standards to perform and document procedures safely and accurately, administer medications and IV therapy following policy.
• Assess and reassess patient and family needs, documenting and reassessing every eight hours or as needed.
• Plan care: engage patients and families in creating care plans, prioritize needs, conduct care conferences, maintain up-to-date care plans, coordinate with community agencies and other professionals.
• Engage in team discussions: work with medical staff and other professionals to develop patient care plans.
• Utilize systems: efficiently use Bed Management System, Alpha, CPOE, and other relevant computer systems.
• Teach and educate: initiate health teaching for patients and families, contribute to staff and student education.
• Consult and lead: offer guidance and support to healthcare team members, demonstrate professionalism.
• Follow precautions: adhere to universal precautions and occupational exposure policies, identify and address potential problems affecting patient care.
• Maintain competency: complete annual competency validation and stay proficient in point-of-care testing per lab criteria.

• Minimum of 1 year nursing experience.
• BLS or CPR certification required within 30 days of hire.
• Registered Nurse (RN) license.
• Act 34 compliance.
• Current RN license in the state where the facility is located or, if applicable, a multistate license via the Nursing Licensure Compact.

• Union position: SEIU.
• Variable shifts, per diem pay of $32/hour.
