UPMC Altoona is seeking a part‑time Registered Nurse to join our Surgical Trauma/Medical Oncology & Palliative Care team! This position will work evening shifts, including rotating weekends and holidays.

• Newly competitive wages:
  • $31.50 (BSN)
  • $30.00 (non‑BSN)
  • Shift differential: $2.00
  • Title and salary will be determined based upon education and nursing experience.

Front:
Surgical/Trauma is a fast‑paced, 23‑bed unit specializing in the care of post‑surgical adults and low‑acuity trauma patients. Our unit specializes in caring for patients who have undergone a wide range of abdominal surgeries, as well as general medical cases such as sepsis, renal insufficiency, respiratory conditions, pancreatitis, and a variety of acute and chronic illnesses. Tower 14 is also able to provide medical telemetry monitoring for those patients who require this type of care.

Back:
Medical Oncology & Palliative Care is an 18‑bed medical telemetry unit that provides specialized care to both oncology and palliative care patients. There are 5 palliative care suites to accommodate our patients with palliative care needs. Nurses are trained and certified to administer chemotherapy and provide care to patients who may require telemetry monitoring, require neutropenic precautions, and numerous other conditions.

Each plan of care for our patients is tailored to meet each of their unique care needs.

• Planning:
  Includes the patient and family/significant other in the formulation of the plan of care. Prioritizes patient’s needs appropriately. Plans, conducts, and documents patient care conferences. Maintains a current plan of care for each assigned patient. Utilizes appropriate community agencies and other health care professionals in planning care.
• Serves as a consultant to other members of the health‑care team.
• Demonstrates professionalism in providing patient care.
• Evaluation:
  Revises plan of care, as necessary based on daily evaluation of patient. Evaluates patient’s outcome based on previously defined goals. Evaluates and documents the patient’s response to care, teaching, and treatment.
• Implementation:
  Utilizes nursing care protocols and standards. Carries out and documents procedures according to Hospital Policy. Performs technical skills safely and accurately, and demonstrates a working knowledge of equipment. Transcribes and implements physicians’ orders appropriately. Demonstrates knowledge of the physiological basis for the nursing care delivery. Demonstrates knowledge of medication and IV therapy administration according to policy. Initiates and coordinates health teaching for patients and families/significant other based on individual needs.
