Apply for the LPN – Operating Room position at UPMC Altoona

Posted 2/6/2025 – 1.0 full‑time, 6:45 a.m. – 3:15 p.m. (40 hours/week) with on‑call and rotation;
Union position: AFSCME.
- $7,500 sign‑on bonus for nurses with 1+ year experience.
- $5,000 sign‑on bonus for nurses with less than one year experience (includes GPNs).
- Two‑year work commitment required.
- Patient Care:
- Prepare and assist with meals, including tube feedings.
- Provide fresh water and between‑meal nourishment.
- Assist with toileting, specimen collection, and patient mobility.
- Understand and address needs of patients with co‑occurring disorders.
- Observe, report, and document symptoms, condition changes, and care.
- Provide recreational activities as directed.
- Assist in direct patient care and respond to emergencies.
- Adhere to universal precautions and occupational exposure policies.
- Utilize restraints and protective mechanisms as necessary.
- Medication Administration (when assigned):
- Handle, store, and administer medications under supervision and as ordered.
- Clean and maintain medication cart and supplies.
- Keep team leader informed of medication‑related issues.
- Demonstrate knowledge of medications and IV therapy.
- Count narcotic drugs at shift end with a nurse.
- Administer PRN medications following assessment.
- Accurately record all medication administration data.
- Follow Pyxis System standards.
- Support Tasks:
- Answer nurse call system promptly.
- Escort patients to and from departments.
- Maintain patient rooms and equipment; perform terminal cleaning if needed.
- Assist with patient admissions, orientations, transfers, and discharges.
- Provide treatments such as catheter care, suctioning, enemas, and dressing changes as assigned.
- Must have a temporary permit or a valid license as a practical nurse in Pennsylvania.
- Must successfully pass the Altoona Hospital pharmacology challenge exam.
- CPR (AHA standards) within 30 days of hire.
- Complete licensure examination within 4 months of hire or within one year of graduation, whichever is earlier.
- Additional training for out‑of‑state graduates or pre‑2012 Pennsylvania graduates as specified.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR).
- Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) or Temporary Practice Permit (TPP).
- Act 33 and Act 34 with renewal.
- Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal.
- Current licensure in the applicable state or a multi‑state NLC license. O‑state NLC license holders who change residency must apply within 60 days.
