The Energy unit delivers services to clients globally across several sectors including hydropower, nuclear, waste, renewable generation and transmission & distribution networks. It provides integrated engineering and project management services throughout the project lifecycle – from concept and design to construction, operations and decommissioning.
Overview of the roleThe Energy Unit, within the Transmission & Distribution division, is recruiting a Principal Power Systems Engineer to be part of an integral team delivering large projects worldwide. You will be involved in projects which will include the following responsibilities:
- Power System Analysis – load flow, short circuit, dynamic & transient stability, harmonic analysis, protection, arc flash evaluation, electromagnetic transient analysis
- Power System modelling – conversant with IPSA, ETAP, Dig Silent, PTW, PSS/E v3x & higher and PSCAD
- Visiting project sites and power plants to collect data, sometimes via measurements
- Analysing and interpreting simulation and test data using industry standard tools
- Report preparation and presentation to clients
- Interfacing with clients, suppliers and contractors
- Mentorship of graduates and junior engineers
- Maintaining a comprehensive knowledge and appreciation of technical engineering codes and practices and taking a 'hands‑on' role in technical matters both at project level
Essential:
- Electrical engineering degree (minimum BSc/BEng; MSc/MEng or PhD in power systems is an advantage)
- Proficiency in PSCAD, ETAP, Dig Silent, PTW and other power simulation software
- Team player and willingness to follow instruction
- Appreciation of the roles of fellow professionals on other projects and ability to interface and coordinate appropriately
- Commercial awareness and ability to develop business through existing and new work streams
- High level of IT literacy and numeracy skills
- Adaptability and ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Ability to manage small project teams delivering projects within time and budget
- Ability to produce clear and logical written communication
- Systematic, logical approach to problem solving
