Penguin Recruitment are delighted to be supporting an ambitious and growing planning and development consultancy with the appointment of a Senior Town Planner to join their team in Altrincham.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced planning professional to join a people-focused consultancy delivering innovative planning advice and creative solutions across a diverse portfolio of projects throughout the UK.

The Role

As a Senior Town Planner, you will play a key role in managing projects, providing planning advice to clients and supporting the wider team in delivering successful planning outcomes.

You will have the opportunity to take ownership of your own projects while working alongside experienced planners and Directors on larger and more complex schemes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Managing a range of planning projects from inception through to completion.
  • Conducting detailed research into planning policy, planning history and development constraints.
  • Preparing planning appraisals, statements, reports and planning applications.
  • Developing planning strategies and providing clear, commercially focused advice to clients.
  • Managing and monitoring planning applications proactively.
  • Leading on householder, minor and other planning applications.
  • Supporting senior colleagues and Directors on larger-scale development projects.
  • Briefing and managing external consultants and technical teams where required.
  • Liaising with clients, Local Planning Authorities, consultants and other stakeholders.
  • Preparing regular project updates and providing clear communication to clients.
  • Identifying potential issues and developing proactive solutions.
  • Ensuring projects are delivered accurately, efficiently and within agreed deadlines.
  • Supporting business development activities and developing professional networks.
  • Contributing to the wider profile and growth of the consultancy.
  • Supporting and mentoring more junior members of the team.
About You

Relevant degree and ideally a Master's qualification in Town Planning, Geography, Environmental Planning or a related discipline.

  • Strong previous experience within town planning, ideally gained within a planning consultancy.
  • Good understanding of the UK planning system, legislation and planning policy.
  • Experience independently managing planning applications and projects.
  • Ability to undertake detailed research and translate findings into clear planning strategies and advice.
  • Strong report writing and communication skills.
  • Confident dealing directly with clients, planning officers and other stakeholders.
  • Excellent project management and organisational skills.
  • Commercially aware with a proactive approach to identifying opportunities and solving problems.
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines and work with limited supervision.
  • RTPI Chartered or working towards MRTPI would be highly desirable.
  • Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle would be advantageous due to occasional site visits.
