Job Description & How to Apply Below

Vertical Recruitment is working with an established multidisciplinary consultancy looking to appoint an Associate Civil Engineer to take a senior position within its Civil Engineering team.

The business has an established presence across North Wales and the North West, delivering engineering, environmental and planning services to clients across the private and public sectors.

This opportunity would suit an experienced Principal or Associate Civil Engineer who enjoys remaining involved in technical delivery but is also looking for greater responsibility in leading projects, developing a team and influencing the direction of an established civil engineering offering.

The consultancy has a varied workload spanning residential and commercial development, highways, drainage, utilities, water infrastructure and wider site development projects.

The Opportunity

This is a senior, client-facing position offering a balance between technical project delivery, team leadership and commercial responsibility.

You'll be involved in managing a portfolio of civil engineering commissions, working closely with other disciplines and supporting the continued development of the team.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading civil engineering projects across development infrastructure, highways, drainage, utilities and associated works.
  • Providing technical direction, reviewing designs and ensuring projects are delivered to appropriate quality standards.
  • Managing project teams, programmes, resources, budgets and commercial performance.
  • Building and maintaining client relationships, acting as a senior point of contact throughout project delivery.
  • Supporting and mentoring engineers and technicians, helping to strengthen technical capability and team performance.
  • Coordinating with structural, geotechnical, environmental and planning specialists on multidisciplinary projects.
  • Contributing to new project opportunities, client development and the longer-term growth of the Civil Engineering team.

Importantly, this isn't a position focused solely on management or business development. You'll remain directly involved in project delivery, technical decisions and client engagement.

Project Exposure

The consultancy works across residential and mixed-use developments, commercial and industrial schemes, logistics facilities, highways, drainage, SuDS, water and wastewater infrastructure, utilities, earthworks and public-sector improvement programmes.

The immediate focus is on development infrastructure, highways and drainage, although experience across water, utilities or wider civil engineering projects would also be valuable.

About You

We're interested in speaking with experienced Civil Engineers who have progressed into technical and project leadership within a consultancy environment.

Ideally, you'll bring:

  • A degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline, alongside Chartered status with the ICE or equivalent professional recognition.
  • A strong consultancy background, ideally operating at Principal or Associate level.
  • Technical expertise across highways, drainage, SuDS and development infrastructure.
  • Experience leading civil engineering projects from early design through approvals and construction.
  • Confidence managing clients, project teams, budgets and wider commercial responsibilities.
  • Experience mentoring engineers, overseeing technical work and coordinating multidisciplinary teams.
  • A good understanding of relevant UK design standards, technical requirements and approval processes.
  • Experience with Civil 3D, Causeway Flow, Auto Track or similar software would be beneficial.

The business is open to individuals from different civil engineering backgrounds, provided they have the technical credibility, leadership experience and commercial understanding required for a senior appointment.

What's on Offer?
  • Competitive salary, dependent on experience.
  • Flexible working arrangements across North Wales and the North West.
  • 25 days' holiday plus bank holidays, increasing to 30 days with service.
  • Private medical care, company pension and continued professional development.
  • A varied portfolio of civil engineering and multidisciplinary projects.
  • The opportunity to influence team development, project delivery and future growth.
  • Longer-term progression towards senior leadership and Director-level responsibilities.
  • Potential opportunity for share ownership within an employee-owned business.

This is an opportunity for an experienced Civil Engineer looking for a position with genuine influence over…
