Job Summary: Responsible for cleaning assigned patient care areas including daily occupied room cleaning, dismissals/transfer cleaning, staff offices, general and public area cleaning. Follows departmental and hospital infection prevention policies and procedures for disinfecting.
Demonstrates Competency in the Following Areas- Selects and gathers cleaning materials and supplies and prepares chemical solutions according to procedure. Loads service cart properly and transport to work are in a timely manner.
- Cleans assigned patient rooms with hospital approved germicidal detergent and other appropriate cleaners according to department procedures. Cleans the following patient room item: furniture, floors, ceilings/vents, televisions, telephones, shelves, desks, fixtures, plumbing, restroom, overbed table, overbed lights and all other areas of a patient room.
- Displays the ability to complete an average dismissal or transfer room within 30 minutes. Terminal isolation rooms are complete within 45 minutes.
- Dust mops and damp mops patient room floors. Reports project needs such as refinishing to shift supervisor.
- Handles, transport, and store all types of waste to include general, bio, and chemo in accordance with regulations.
- Consistently scores 90% or better on random quality inspections.
- Vacuums carpets daily and spot clean carpets using appropriate chemical solutions and equipment. Returns all furniture and/or equipment to its original location when complete.
- Climbs ladder to hang cubicle curtains/drapes or to reach high areas for any cleaning purpose.
- Uses appropriate personal protective equipment including (but not limited to) utility gloves, gloves, eye shields, head and shoe covers as needed.
- Manages time consistently to complete all assigned duties on a daily basis.
- Displays compassion and courtesy to patient and families in patient rooms; announces presence and purpose for being in the room, greets patients and families, considers the patient situation and reschedule cleaning if the patient is being treated or resting, etc. as defined in hospital policy.
- Maintains appropriate stocking of linen supply room.
- Maintains EVS room and general work area in a neat and orderly manner.
- Displays working knowledge of chemicals and supplies used to carry out duties of the position.
- All other duties as assigned.
- Meets dress code standards: wears proper uniform, neat and clean in appearance, follows department uniform policy.
- Completes annual education and health screening requirements as per hospital policy.
- Displays familiarity and adheres to regulatory requirements of OSHA, JCAHO, and state health codes. Works in a safe manner and keeps work environment safe for others.
- Wears I.D. badge daily and uses time clock properly and consistently.
- Demonstrates a desire to work as part of a team and upholds the goals and objectives of JCMH and the EVS Department.
- Uses proper chain-of-command to resolve issues and communicates openly with shift supervisor and department head when necessary.
- Adheres to department policy and procedures and reports any violation of such that may endanger the life, well-being, or confidentiality of patients, staff, and visitors.
- Consistent attendance and punctuality. Demonstrates knowledge of department policy concerning requests for time off and reporting absence/tardiness.
- Attends and participates in department meetings and in-services.
- Displays a positive and service-oriented approach when dealing with all customers.
- High School Diploma or equivalent is preferred.
- Some related experience in the health care setting is preferred.
- Knowledge of proper housekeeping technique and procedures preferred.
- Previous work history that demonstrates steady attendance and punctuality is essential.
- Ability to read and communicate effectively in English.
