Position: IT Technician I

Job Summary

The IT Technician is responsible for assisting the IT Department in managing various computer systems, telephone systems, and network related tasks along with providing basic to intermediate support to hospital staff that utilize these systems. Duties include but are not limited to installation and maintenance of all computer hardware (pcs, thin clients and printers), installation and maintenance of telecommunications equipment (telephones and fax machines), installation and maintenance of approved hospital software applications, terminating/certifying network cables, monitoring and answering the IT Help Desk, and providing assistance to end users who submit issues through the hospital work order system.

  • Fully knowledgeable of the comprehensive Information Technology policies and procedural flow, and able to apply this knowledge to all situations.
Primary Duties
  • Maintains overall working knowledge of system and application software thereby having the ability to provide intermediate to advanced support to end‑users in a timely and courteous manner.
  • Monitors IT Help Desk and IT work order system to assists users on an as‑needed basis to ensure that IT hardware, software and telecommunications equipment is operating in a manner that is at or above JCMH standards. Communicates with IT Management, JCMH Department Heads and others as appropriate to update them on issues and resolution.
  • Evaluate, recommend, prepare, install and maintain IT related hardware and telecommunication systems including but not limited to PCs, thin clients, laptops, printers, telephones and faxes to meet the ongoing technical needs of the JCMH administrative functions.
  • Prepare, install and maintain all approved hospital IT related software applications according to PC software standards while meeting the technical needs of the JCMH administrative functions.
  • Terminate and certify network cables upon direction of IT Management while coordinating with external departments as needed or when policy dictates.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of the computer industry developments and trends to answer any departmental requests and/or questions.
  • Maintains hospital IT and telecommunications inventory for all systems owned and operated by facility.
  • Inspect devices connected to hospital network for illegal software that could be in violation of the JCMH software policy. Reports found issues to IT Management, Executive Management or other party as appropriate.
  • Ability to provide reference material on topics associated with IT related hardware, software and telecommunications systems upon request.
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; and establishing personal networks.
  • Keeps Director and Assistant Director of Information Technology informed of department activities, needs and problems.
  • Performs job‑specific duties and all other duties as assigned in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Participates in Information Technology on‑call rotation as scheduled.

    • Must be able to meet the public in a direct and professional manner.
    • Previous work history that demonstrates steady attendance and punctuality is required.
    • Intermediate level knowledge of Microsoft products required.
