Director of Public Services.
The Director of Public Services is a key leadership position responsible for overseeing many of Alvarado’s most essential operations and assets, including water and wastewater systems, streets, fleet, buildings, parks, and related services that impact our community’s quality of life. This role serves as a trusted advisor on municipal infrastructure, budgeting, project coordination, personnel management, long-range planning, and service delivery efficiency.
Reporting directly to the City Manager, the Director of Public Services also works closely with Community Development, Engineering, Economic Development, and Parks & Recreation. You will help guide coordinated, infrastructure‑focused decisions that support Alvarado’s continued growth. The ideal candidate is both a strategic thinker and a hands‑on leader—capable of managing daily operational demands while positioning the city for success in a rapidly developing environment.

- Exceptional communication skills to summarize and present complex technical information to diverse audiences. Communicate effectively with residents, staff, elected officials, and partner agencies to resolve concerns.

- Strong sense of accountability and a demonstrated commitment to public service, transparency, and integrity.
- Navigating a political environment and building trust to maintain productive relationships with stakeholders, partners, and the community.
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field
- Minimum of 5 years of professional and hands‑on experience in public services, with a comprehensive understanding of municipal and public works procedures and policies
- Candidates with the following occupational licenses or certifications issued by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) or the American Public Works Association (APWA) may be given special consideration in the hiring process:
- Class II (or higher) Water Treatment Specialist (WTS)
- Class B (or higher) Water/Wastewater License
- Certified Public Infrastructure Inspector (CPII)
- Certified Public Works Professional-Management (CPWP-M)
- Certified Public Works Professional-Supervision (CPWP-S)
