Field Superintendent – Plumbing & Fire Protection – Hoffman Construction Company
Job SummaryThe Plumbing/Fire Protection Field Superintendent will work within the Construction department and will report to the Project Superintendent and Mechanical/Electrical Construction Manager. Working closely with other superintendents, subcontractors and the Project Superintendent, the applicant will manage projects from start to finish, ensuring supervision of the plumbing and fire protection team and subcontractors on site.
Responsibilities- Coordinate day‑to‑day activities with other superintendents, plumbing and fire protection subcontractors, and other discipline subcontractors.
- Supervise multiple subcontractors and craft employees.
- Maintain and adjust project schedule daily.
- Manage RFIs and material submittals for review with the client/architect.
- Oversee cost control and QA/QC program.
- Abide by all safety protocols.
- Resolve design and constructability issues.
- Respond to client requests and develop technical solutions.
- Ensure installations meet local authority codes and site specifications.
- Provide cost estimate field condition data.
- Facilitate contractor activity ensuring performance of all contractual agreements.
- Assist with project staffing management.
- Collaborate with clients, architects, engineers, consultants, and subcontractors.
- Minimum 5 years plumbing and fire protection construction experience.
- Preferred experience on large industrial and hi‑tech fabrication projects.
- OHSA 30 Certification.
- High School diploma or GED required.
- Preferred Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, or equivalent.
- Knowledge of construction materials, methods, and specifications.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office 365 and project management software (Procore, E‑Builder, Bluebeam, Microsoft Project, Primavera).
- Experience with design software (AutoCAD, Revit, Navisworks).
- Strong document reading, specification interpretation, and survey skills.
- Understanding of CSI specifications and mechanical/fire protection installations on large equipment.
- Excellent time‑management, multi‑tasking, and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently, in teams, and across departments.
- Flexibility for extended hours or off‑shift work as project schedules require.
- Standing, walking, sitting during workday.
- Climbing ladders, scaffolds, stairs; working in confined spaces.
- Operate computer and office machinery frequently.
- Vision with close focus, depth perception; driver’s license required.
- Hearing protection may be required in loud areas.
- Speech in English required.
- Lift or manipulate 50 lbs to 3 ft; push or pull up to 50‑100 ft.
- Perform frequent bending and twisting; kneel, crouch, crawl as needed.
- Use judgment, organization, and problem‑solving skills to achieve results.
Salary: $100,000 – $150,000 annually, depending on experience.
