We are hiring in Amarillo, Texas! Land Surveying Crew Chiefs - Check Us Out! Crew Chief

Wage: $28 - $44 per hour (based on experience)

PER DIEM: $1,150 per week (must work 5 days a week or will be prorated)

Full Time Position: 40 hours per week. Overtime with applicable rates.

FLSA:
Non-Exempt

Working Hours:

Monday-Friday: 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. (Typical) (Will vary to meet clients' needs)

Occasional Saturdays on an as-needed basis.

Job Summary

Our Land Surveying Crew Chiefs are responsible for assisting in surveying operations, coordinating with team members, and ensuring accurate data collection in the field. This entry-level supervisory role requires foundational surveying experience, technical skills, and a commitment to safety and professionalism.

Minimum Qualifications

Land Surveying

Experience:

a minimum of two years of general survey practice, including topographic mapping, construction staking, boundary determination, and data collection. Proficiency in operating survey equipment and data collection methods. Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.

Key Responsibilities Equipment Operation
  • Maintain and operate conventional survey equipment, including GPS, robotic instruments, and total stations.
  • Operate data collectors to perform as-builts, stakeouts, and establish control according to client specifications.
Data Management
  • Backup tablet data and ensure it is inputted according to established file structures.
  • Coordinate daily with office staff to translate and deliver field data accurately.
Field Data Accuracy
  • Perform closed level loops to a third-order accuracy (1:10,000) and establish control to the same degree of accuracy.
  • Record field data in field books daily and file documentation with the office.
Time Tracking
  • Accurately record and input crew’s daily time into the time tracking system on a daily basis.
Construction Plan Reading
  • Navigate and understand construction plans for reference and guidance.
  • Accurately as-built and map utilities, performing complete utility layouts for excavations and dig permits.
Client Interaction
  • Receive and execute staking requests from clients, following directions from the manager.
  • Cultivate clients and suggest other possible options for layout to achieve the same outcome but with less fieldwork if applicable.
Professionalism and Teamwork
  • Professionally represent the company and work collaboratively in a team atmosphere with coworkers, clients, and other trades.
  • Demonstrate self-starter qualities and initiative in improving company operations.
Safety Compliance
  • Comply with site safety requirements – OSHA and understand excavation standards.
  • Complete pre-job truck inspections, safety documentation, and ensure timely submission.
  • Maintain trucks and equipment to meet company standards.

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to perform physical tasks associated with surveying work. Strenuous walking and lifting; catch basin grates/manhole covers, hauling equipment. Capable of lifting and carrying 50 lbs. Physically maneuver around construction sites, including accessing excavations, trenches, structures and other disturbed areas.
  • Willingness to work in various weather conditions and environments.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent; relevant surveying certification preferred.
