Position: Substitute Teacher- Amarillo College Students Only

PRIMARY PURPOSE:

Manages student learning in accordance with the goals and directives of the school and the district.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum Education/Certification:

Currently enrolled in Amarillo College with a minimum of 30 credit hours.

Special Knowledge/Skills:

  • Knowledge of assigned curriculum and instructional methods.
  • Lesson planning and presentation skills.
  • Conflict resolution and classroom management skills.
  • Group interaction skills.
  • Technology skills preferred.

Work Conditions:

  • Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment including personal computer and peripherals.
  • Posture: Prolonged sitting and standing; bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting.
  • Motion: Repetitive hand motions including keyboarding; reaching.
  • Lifting: Lifting and carrying less than 50 pounds.
  • Environment: Ability to work with frequent interruptions, maintain professionalism under stress, work flexible hours including summer and evenings, and wear professional attire.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

  • Maintain confidentiality of student and school personnel information.
  • Maintain discipline and classroom control to foster a safe, positive environment.
  • Supervise students to ensure their health, welfare, and safety.
  • Take precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Report to the office upon arrival; check mailbox of absent teacher; clarify school rules if needed.
  • Report student injuries, accidents, illnesses, and discipline issues promptly.
  • Implement lesson plans effectively to motivate student participation and learning.
  • Dismiss students before leaving the building.
  • Collect and organize students’ papers.
  • Return instructional materials, equipment, and keys to proper places.
  • Follow school and division policies and regulations.
  • Model non-discriminatory practices.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by administrators.
  • Participate in AISD Substitute Teacher staff development programs.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant policies, statutes, and the Educator Code of Ethics.
