**** SUMMARY
* * As a GIS Analyst I, you'll help maintain the City’s maps and spatial data, ensuring it's kept accurate, usable, and up to date. This position supports a wide range of City services by maintaining data for parks, planning, water, wastewater, stormwater, zoning, public safety, and more. The work you do will be used by planners, engineers, field personnel, public safety, and other departments across the organization.
Day to day, this role focuses on editing and maintaining GIS datasets, creating maps, running spatial queries, and occasionally verifying information in the field. You’ll also help keep web maps current, respond to mapping requests from City staff, and assist with planning and projects that depend on good location data.
** ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
*** Maintains various GIS data including but not limited to: parks, public works, water utilities, wastewater, storm water, parcel, easement, zoning, land use, and public safety. Updates recently approved items as well as making needed corrections.
* Performs work in accordance with established GIS standards, procedures, and templates, referring unusual or complex issues to senior GIS staff or the GIS Manager.
* Assists with development and maintenance of GIS data resources to be utilized for public access of geographic data.
* Performs varied data gathering and entry to create, maintain, display and update Geographic Information Systems databases.
* Produces accurate maps and other representations of data for public use and field work activity.
* Performs field work to visually locate items to resolve conflicting information and ensure the accuracy of data.
* Compiles and integrates cartographic data from a wide variety of sources for inclusion in map documents.
* Creates and edits geospatial data, using GPS and digitizing techniques.
* Creates and edits maps, integrating a range of data formats.
* Performs basic review and analysis of geospatial and tabular data and produces mapping products using established tools, templates, and procedures.
* Assists in meeting with users to document data needs, project requirements, and required output using standard forms and guidance. Implements and follows established procedures to incorporate geospatial and tabular data into GIS maps and reports.
* Prepares sketches and maps for various presentations in collaboration with other departments.
* Provides special request maps for internal department and external requests.
* Provides a variety of information from GIS to property owners, citizens, architects, engineers, developers and others.
* Assists departments on projects involving field surveys, compiling statistical data relating to land use, population, social and economic characteristics and other research for various planning related studies.
* Helps maintain City websites with GIS-related information by updating map content and data links under the direction of supervisory or senior staff.
* Assists in the organization and filing of drawings, plans and other documents related to the maintenance and upkeep of record drawing information, including scanning documents and linking them to GIS software.
* Occasionally works after hours to complete projects and meet deadlines.
* Maintains a positive, helpful, constructive attitude and working relationship with team members, City employees, Elected Officials and the public.
* Participates in training and professional development to stay current with GIS software, tools, City standards, and evolving requirements.

** MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
** Requires practical CAD/GIS experience sufficient to perform the duties of the position, typically at least one year. Formal education or training in GIS, Geography, Earth Science, Computer Science, Construction Science, or a related field, may be considered in lieu of some experience if it provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. GIS Certification preferred.
A valid Texas Driver’s License is required.
Due to the level of access to potentially sensitive information, successful completion of a criminal background check is required. Background check must confirm eligibility for Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) system access and CJIS eligibility must be maintained for the duration of employment.

* Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
