Primary Purpose

• Provide technical expertise to support mechanical needs for various customers.
• Aid in the specification of natural gas compression equipment based on operating conditions to optimize performance, flexibility to changes, long-term reliability, ease of maintenance, and minimize 20 year life cycle costs.
• Establish vendor relationships as applies to equipment in the area.
• Deal with a wide variety of people with tact, courtesy and professionalism.
• Organize work for timely completion and be available for overtime work if required.
• Use personal judgment and specialized knowledge to provide and safeguard confidential information.
• Communicate in a highly professional manner; speak clearly, listen carefully, and maintain professional email correspondence.
• Travel (up to 50% often overnight) to contractor or Kinder Morgan sites for mechanical support and to attend meetings and conferences. Weekend travel is occasionally required.
• Work with Operations in development of annual budgets regarding compression and ancillary equipment needs.
• Maintain attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple assignments with various deadlines.
• Maintain regular, dependable attendance and high performance.
• Read and interpret mechanical, electrical, control, and instrumentation drawings.
• Primary work location is Amarillo, TX, but other locations will be considered.

Position Requirements

Educational Requirements

• A 4-year Engineering degree from an accredited school.

Job Requirements

• Preferred two years practical experience (post degree) in the design and technical analysis of high pressure natural gas compressor systems.
• Specific knowledge in natural gas compression equipment and mechanical design of gas compression equipment (reciprocating engines, gas turbines, electric motor drives, reciprocating and centrifugal compressors).
• Proficiency in basic engineering skills.
• Experience and knowledge with compressor station design.
• Proficient in basic PC operations (word processing and spreadsheets).
• Familiarity with reading and interpreting electrical and mechanical blueprints/diagrams, including P&IDs.

Certifications, Licenses, Registrations

• Possess a valid driver's license and meet company insurability requirements.

Physical Demands

• Uses physical force to lift, push, pull and hold equipment/tools; sometimes climbs and works at heights.
• Ability to react to alarms and inspect work; regular handling of hand tools; variable work positions.
• Must be able to lift a minimum of 20 pounds; occasional lifting up to 50 pounds.

Working Conditions

• May work in low-lit areas and withstand extreme weather conditions.
• Wears safety equipment as required.
