Field Compression Engineer (Amarillo, TX)

Primary Purpose
- Provide technical expertise to support mechanical needs for various customers.
- Aid in the specification of natural gas compression equipment based on operating conditions to optimize performance, flexibility to changes, long-term reliability, ease of maintenance, and minimize 20 year life cycle costs.
- Establish vendor relationships as applies to equipment in the area.
- Deal with a wide variety of people with tact, courtesy and professionalism.
- Organize work for timely completion and be available for overtime work if required.
- Use personal judgment and specialized knowledge to provide and safeguard confidential information.
- Communicate in a highly professional manner; speak clearly, listen carefully, and maintain professional email correspondence.
- Travel (up to 50% often overnight) to contractor or Kinder Morgan sites for mechanical support and to attend meetings and conferences. Weekend travel is occasionally required.
- Work with Operations in development of annual budgets regarding compression and ancillary equipment needs.
- Maintain attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple assignments with various deadlines.
- Maintain regular, dependable attendance and high performance.
- Read and interpret mechanical, electrical, control, and instrumentation drawings.
- Primary work location is Amarillo, TX, but other locations will be considered.
Position Requirements
Educational Requirements
- A 4-year Engineering degree from an accredited school.
Job Requirements
- Preferred two years practical experience (post degree) in the design and technical analysis of high pressure natural gas compressor systems.
- Specific knowledge in natural gas compression equipment and mechanical design of gas compression equipment (reciprocating engines, gas turbines, electric motor drives, reciprocating and centrifugal compressors).
- Proficiency in basic engineering skills.
- Experience and knowledge with compressor station design.
- Proficient in basic PC operations (word processing and spreadsheets).
- Familiarity with reading and interpreting electrical and mechanical blueprints/diagrams, including P&IDs.
Certifications, Licenses, Registrations
- Possess a valid driver's license and meet company insurability requirements.
Physical Demands
- Uses physical force to lift, push, pull and hold equipment/tools; sometimes climbs and works at heights.
- Ability to react to alarms and inspect work; regular handling of hand tools; variable work positions.
- Must be able to lift a minimum of 20 pounds; occasional lifting up to 50 pounds.
Working Conditions
- May work in low-lit areas and withstand extreme weather conditions.
- Wears safety equipment as required.
