What You’ll Do

As a System Engineer/Technical Authority for an assigned system, the candidate will be responsible for becoming a Subject Matter Expert (SME), in a specific area or topic, and are expected to be uniquely qualified to provide guidance and strategy to help fill knowledge gaps on projects or within a company regarding the assigned system as needed. The candidate is expected to react to issues as they arise, troubleshoot, provide solutions, and document all field changes to their system.

Ideally, the candidate should have a pro‑active approach to managing the assigned system in order to minimize and/or prevent down time and unwanted problems. The candidate will serve as the liaison with representatives ranging from vendors, contractors, Department of Energy (DOE) and other Pantex departments as required to ensure effective and necessary technical cooperation at all levels that result in the completion of assigned objectives.

The position requires knowledge in Industrial Facility Utility Systems such as:
Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC), Steam Distribution Systems, Domestic Water & Sewer, and Compressed Air, etc.

Minimum

Job Requirements
  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from an Accreditation Commission (EAC) or Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) accredited program in the United States or designated equivalents from Canada or Mexico, the Washington Accord, or the list of substantially equivalent as documented by ABET with a minimum 3.0/4.0 cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA)
  • OR a Master's degree in a mechanical engineering discipline with a minimum 3.3/4.0 cumulative GPA
  • OR a PhD in a mechanical engineering discipline with a minimum 3.5/4.0 cumulative GPA
  • There is a minimum GPA requirement up to 4 years post‑graduation at time of offer and confirmed by transcript
  • Beyond four years from graduation, engineering experience will supersede GPA as a requirement for hire
DOE Order 426.2A Requirements
  • In addition to the above requirements, the applicant must also meet the requirements of DOE O 426.2A (i.e., Baccalaureate in engineering or related science, 2 years of job‑related and at least 1 year of nuclear experience, or a DOE O 426.2A alternative). DOE O 426.2A experience requirements can be satisfied following employment. In the interim, newly hired personnel will not be assigned duties that could impact the safety basis of nuclear facilities.

  • Ability to evaluate and provide feedback on new and proposed revisions to technical operating procedures, design drawings and requirements, and facility systems, structures, and components
  • Ability to make informed decisions and support those decisions to peers and senior management
