Position: Transport Engineer Spec I - Amarillo Deisign

Performs advanced and specialized drafting, calculations and design work; performs field work; uses automated systems; learns specialized techniques. Design activity is overseen by a licensed professional engineer or registered architect who has final approval authority for projects. Employees at this level perform work independently on assignments; however, all unusual issues are referred to the supervisor.

Essential Duties

• Assists in planning and coordinating office operations.
• Assists in writing general notes, specifications and provisions.
• Performs advanced and specialized design work.
• Performs advanced and specialized drafting and calculations in support of design activities; develops graphic presentations that include distinctive design features.
• Performs traffic engineering design work, analyzes traffic and accident data and recommends solutions for traffic problems.
• Prepares field notes.
• Prepares quantity summaries, hydraulic and utility studies and right‑of‑way maps.
• Prepares roadway design, traffic control, lighting, signal, and building plans.
• Reviews entire sets of plans for format, drafting and calculation errors and correlation of plans and specifications.
• Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications Education

High School Grad or Equivalent in general high school studies.

Experience

6 years drafting, design, plan preparation. (Experience can be satisfied by full‑time or prorated part‑time equivalent). Related college education or relevant technical training may be substituted for experience on a year‑per‑year basis.

Licenses and Certifications

Valid driver’s license. This position requires driving a state vehicle.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

• Subject to inside and outside environmental conditions
• Subject to extreme cold and heat; below 32 and/or above 100 degrees for more than one hour
• Balancing-walking, standing, crouching on various surfaces without falling
• Stooping-bending body downward and forward by bending spine at waist
• Standing‑prolonged periods of time
• Talking‑expressing or exchanging ideas by spoken words
• Repetitive Motion-substantial movements of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers
• Close Visual Acuity‑work includes data/figures; view a computer screen; extensive reading
