Position Overview

We are looking for a Power Substation Communication Engineer to support the Energy team in eGRID, USA. The role may be based in Denver, CO, Minneapolis, MN or Amarillo, TX.

Key Responsibilities
  • Work within a multi‑discipline team to develop, review, and evaluate efficient and reliable electrical design packages for medium and high voltage substations.
  • Review standard substation drawings and equipment configuration requirements related to these systems.
  • Utilize industrial communication protocols such as Modbus RTU, Modbus TCP, DNP
    3.0, and Ethernet/IP.
  • Evaluate a design's overall effectiveness, cost, reliability, and safety.
  • Investigate root causes of failures to maintain quality and recommend improvements.
  • Create SCADA point lists, remote terminal unit (RTU) programs, human‑machine interfaces (HMI’s), meter programs, metering overviews, and calculations under the supervision of a lead engineer.
  • Develop complete design packages for site network and communication architectures compliant with client and regulatory requirements.
  • Implement sound cyber‑security architecture and configurations on substation devices and apply NERC CIP compliance requirements.
  • Review internal and external designs for code compliance, good design practice, and constructability.
Travel

Travel to client sites as required.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from a recognized institution.
  • Knowledge of applicable industry standards including the National Electric Code (NEC), National Electric Safety Code (NESC), and IEEE.
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills; high proficiency in English with good written and oral communication.
  • Ability to perform independently and in a team environment and to provide project ownership.
Preferred
  • Professional Engineer (PE) registration.
  • Prior utility consulting experience.
