Overview

Northwest Texas Healthcare System is a 495‑bed system serving Amarillo and surrounding regions, combining traditional values with advanced technologies in a small‑town atmosphere.

The Paramedic will provide quality care to patients of all ages under the direction of the Medical Director, in accordance with the philosophy, goals, and objectives of Northwest Texas Healthcare System. The Paramedic reports to the charge nurse for shift assignments and direction of shift duties as assigned. Under the direction of a health care practitioner, the Paramedic provides patient care within a defined scope of practice that includes patient care/observation, specified treatments and procedures;

provision of environmental and personal safety, and effective communication.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with RN and Medical Providers to provide patient care to adult medical and trauma patients utilizing advanced skills and judgment.
  • Perform ECG interpretation, IV therapy, and initiate approved protocol orders and guidelines for patients in the setting.
  • Collect pertinent data within certification scope and report clinical, psychosocial findings to the RN or medical provider and chart appropriately.
  • Implement protocols as outlined by the Medical Director to deliver timely and efficient care.
  • Maintain professional behavior when dealing with issues or conflicts, utilizing appropriate resources.
  • Provide an environment conducive to safety for patients, visitors, and employees.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Completion of an accredited school of paramedicine and Texas certification as a paramedic.
  • 1 year experience in a hospital setting as a Paramedic, preferred.
  • Current BLS certification from the American Heart Association within 90 days of hire and maintained throughout employment.
  • HWC within 90 days of hire and maintained throughout employment.
Physical & Sensory Requirements
  • Read and write in English.
  • Communicate with patients, families, staff, physicians, and support agencies.
  • Remain calm under stress.
  • Comprehend and follow instructions.
  • Ability to bend, lift (25 lbs minimum), grasp, fine‑hand coordination, push, pull, and squat.
  • Quantitative/mathematical ability (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, standard/metric measurements).
  • Exposure to infectious organisms, agents, and toxic chemicals.
