Pay Range

Base pay: $74,678.00/yr – $97,087.00/yr (actual pay based on skills and experience)

Summary

This position serves as a Supervisory Inventory Management Specialist for expendable (EX) assets/materials for the Logistics Service within the VA Health Care System. Responsibilities include supervising multiple supply series of consumable medical supply/inventory used in the healthcare system, overseeing the micro‑purchase program, and serving as the Commodity Management Division's subject matter expert. The role advises and consults the Chief Supply Chain Officer (CSCO) and Assistant CSCO.

Qualifications

Applicants must meet the following minimum qualifications by the closing date of 01/14/2026:

  • Time‑in‑Grade:
    Current federal employees who have held a GS level any time in the last 52 weeks must also meet the specified time‑in‑grade requirements. For a GS‑11 position, 52 weeks at GS‑09 is required. SF‑50 evidencing eligibility must be submitted.
  • Experience:

    One (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to GS‑9 level in the federal service, including planning, coordinating, and executing an inventory and commodity management program, establishing procedures, overseeing physical inventories, conducting data‑analysis for acquisition planning, and exercising supervisory responsibilities.
  • Education:

    Ph.D., LL.M., or 3 full years of graduate education leading to such a degree, with transcripts submitted. Education exceeding a master’s level may qualify for the GS‑11 level.
  • Combination:
    An equivalent combination of specialized experience and education directly related to the work of the position.
  • Driving license: required for travel between the main facility and CBOCs.

Physical Requirements and Work Environment

Primarily sedentary office work; occasional standing, walking, bending, lifting up to 40 lbs. Physical exertion includes stretching, reaching, pulling, and pushing while assisting with inventories.

Duties
  • Supply Management – inventory control and distribution of expendable inventory; oversight of the commodity program; effectiveness/efficiency reviews; computation of supplies requirements.
  • Reutilization – manage federal and agency programs for return and reutilization of medical supplies; approve emergent procurement decisions; root‑cause analysis; act as utilization and disposal official for excess consumables.
  • Supervision – supervise employees from related units; recommend promotions, reassignments, and awards; develop position descriptions and performance standards; conduct performance reviews; assist staff with performance issues; schedule leave; monitor overtime; resolve complaints; develop professional growth plans; conduct training.
  • Additional duties as assigned.
Work Schedule

Monday – Friday, 7:30 am – 4:00 pm. May work holidays/weekends. This is not a virtual position.
