The United States Department of Energy (DOE) is a cabinet-level department of the U.S. Government responsible for energy policies and nuclear safety. Its responsibilities include managing the nation's nuclear weapons program, nuclear reactor production for the U.S. Navy, energy conservation, energy-related research, radioactive waste disposal, and domestic energy production. DOE also sponsors research in genomics, including the Human Genome Project, and conducts extensive physical sciences research through its National Laboratories.
