Position: Security Guard

Position Summary: Under general supervision, the Security Guard provides security services for the Security and Safety Department, supports an organizational culture of Service Excellence, and practices the Service Excellence Standards for all customer groups. The employee must maintain a Texas Private Security Level II License.

Job Duties/Responsibilities:

  • A. Responds to requests by radio, pager, telephone, or other methods of communication.
  • B. Responds to emergency calls for assistance.
  • C. Responds to partial alarms within the facility and/or Pavilion.
  • D. Conducts periodic inspection tours based on predetermined priorities and conditions.
  • E. Monitors the CCTV security system, becomes proficient in its use, and troubleshoots as required.
  • F. Maintains logs of inspections as required.
  • G. Completes incident reports for any criminal and/or civil situations.
  • H. Participates in fire drills and other life‑safety awareness programs and documents participation.
  • I. Participates in and supports a process to improve the performance of services.
  • J. Responds to requests from the Pavilion to help with mental health situations.
  • K. Must attend Verbal De‑Escalation Training and work with mental‑health patients; training applies initially and annually thereafter.
  • L. Required to attend and be proficient at Handle With Care Training and work with mental‑health patients; training applies initially and annually thereafter.
  • M. Serves subpoenas as required.
  • N. Appears in court as needed to provide testimony.
  • O. Provides escorts to law‑enforcement agencies, TDCJ, and mental‑health professionals as required.
  • P. Assists Child Protective Services as required.
  • Q. Registers and logs sex offenders as necessary.
  • R. Issues and logs criminal trespass warnings as they arise.
  • S. Performs lockups and unlocks of doors daily throughout the facility, including the Pavilion, Wound Care, and J O Wyatt (if assigned).
  • T. Enforces the NWTHS Parking Policy, including written citations.
  • U. Enforces the NWTHS Non‑Smoking Policy, including written citations.
  • V. Performs duties not otherwise stipulated, as assigned by the Director of Security.
