Position OverviewReporting to the Commercial Lead, the Quantity Surveyor is responsible for all commercial and contractual matters on the allocated site and should be able to effectively manage an assistant surveyor to successfully deliver the project. On larger, more intricate projects, the QS may require the same tasks for a section or sections of the works, reporting to a Senior or Managing Quantity Surveyor.
GeneralResponsibilities
- Ensure effective cost management of the project through regular and accurate forecasting and cost/value reporting.
- Be aware of the contractual requirements of the project, advise the site team on key requirements and ensure that all notices and other matters are actioned accordingly to protect the business's contractual position (Main, Sub-Contracts and consultancy agreements).
- Lead and manage the procurement process to maximise profit and ensure subcontract orders are placed on time and in accordance with the company policy.
- Monitor and maximise cash flow.
- Monitor and chase main contract payments.
- Procure subcontractors in accordance with the commercial policy.
- Ensure clear scope of works for subcontractors and that all appropriate information is contained within the sub‑contract documentation.
- Ensure subcontracts cover responsibilities in terms of quality, programme, health, safety, environmental, etc.
- Accurately measure subcontractors' works and review records of their work.
- Ensure timely appraisal and share information within the company.
- Ensure subcontract payments are based on accurate valuation and made on time.
- Produce monthly valuations on time.
- Produce monthly commercial reports in accordance with the business's Commercial policy.
- Identify and manage scope and risks on an ongoing basis.
- Be accountable for commercial involvement and understanding of the programme at summary level.
- Actively involve in contractual programming issues.
- Adequate experience as a Quantity Surveyor.
- Experience with NEC forms of contract.
- Experience with in Major Civils/Infrastructure projects (advantageous).
- Relevant degree in Quantity Surveying or Commercial Management.
- Accredited course by the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS).
