Housekeeping Assistant (YHA – Ambleside)

Minimum 5 hours per week. £12.21 per hour, rising to £12.71 per hour from 1st March 2026 in line with National Living Wage.

YHA Ambleside is looking for a Housekeeping Team Member to join our large, vibrant team at YHA Ambleside, a stunning hostel on the shores of Lake Windermere. This flexible role suits someone looking to work around other commitments while taking pride in maintaining high standards in our busy, welcoming hostel.

Required – We will provide the training you need, but there is plenty to get started with from day one:

• Cleaning and preparing bedrooms between guest departures and arrivals
• Maintaining the cleanliness of shower and toilet areas
• Keeping all areas of the hostel clean and tidy
• Efficiently undertaking housekeeping tasks, maintaining consistent cleanliness standards throughout the hostel
• Complying with YHA requirements for the use and storage of cleaning products
• Reporting any faults or damage to a member of the hostel management team
• Sorting and distributing used and unused linen

• Experience of working face to face with customers
• Experience of working in hospitality or customer service (desirable)
• Experience of working in a team that helps others achieve a common goal
• Excellent timekeeping, flexibility to cover different shifts, punctual and able to meet deadlines
• Ability to manage varying pressures, prioritise, deal with conflicting duties
• Basic IT skills (Microsoft Office – Word, Outlook, Excel)
• Knowledge and understanding of the core purpose of YHA and its values
• Demonstration of YHA HEART values – bring them to life in everyday work
