Job Overview

YHA Langdale is looking for a Duty Manager to support the Hostel Manager. This permanent, flexible contract role requires 25 – 42.5 hours per week at an hourly rate of £13.13. Staff accommodation is available at £69.83 per week.

What will you be doing as a Duty Manager?
  • Guiding and supporting team members working in all areas of the hostel, fostering a collaborative and inclusive work environment.
  • Using our systems for efficient guest check‑ins and check‑outs, food and beverage sales and service and other management functions.
  • Carrying out housekeeping duties, ensuring a comfortable, clean environment for all visitors.
  • Assisting in the preparation of food and serving food and drinks with genuine warmth, hospitality, and pride that will influence more sales.
  • Deputising for the Hostel/Deputy Manager, managing the daily hostel operation in their absence.
What skills and experience do you need to be a Duty Manager?
  • Experience of working face‑to‑face with customers.
  • Experience in hospitality or customer service, including the management and delivery of a quality service.
  • Experience of managing a team and providing guidance to members of your team (desirable).
  • Food safety level 2 and APLH level 2 qualifications (desirable).
  • Ability to manage varying pressures, include peaks in workload demands, prioritise, and deal with conflicting duties.
  • Basic IT skills (ideally Microsoft Office), able to use Word, Outlook, Excel.
  • Knowledge and understanding of YHA’s core purpose and how we do it.
  • Demonstration of our HEART values, bringing them to life in everyday work.
