DescriptionWe are seeking a Mobile Mechanic skilled in diesel and gas engine repair for our fleet and rolling equipment.
Duties and Responsibilities- Inspect, repair, or overhaul trucks, and any fleet equipment with diesel or gas engines.
- Perform mechanical and preventive maintenance on automotive, diesel, and other power‑driven equipment, keeping the shop area, parts inventory and tools organized.
- Raise trucks and heavy parts using hydraulic jacks or hoists.
- Inspect brake systems, steering mechanisms, transmissions, engines, and other vehicle components.
- Disassemble and reassemble equipment and parts.
- Change and repair tires, tubes, valve stems, lock rings, and other minor mechanical components.
- Adjust and align wheels, tighten bolts and screws, and attach system components.
- Clean and wash motorized equipment; wash windows, tighten body bolts, sweep, and keep shop and equipment orderly.
- Repair electrical components, change spark plugs, belts, chain linkages, batteries, and oil.
- Perform routine maintenance such as oil changes, battery checks, and lubrication of equipment.
- Read and interpret diagnostic test results using gauges, dials, and computer equipment.
- Repair or replace malfunctioning components, parts, and other mechanical or electrical equipment.
- Follow a checklist of inspection procedures.
- Inspect, repair, or replace all gauges, belts, filters, hydraulic systems, and other equipment as part of a preventive maintenance schedule.
- Pick up and deliver personnel, parts, and vehicles.
- Test drive vehicles to diagnose malfunctions and ensure smooth operation.
- Punctuality and regular attendance are mandatory.
- Other duties and assignments as requested by management.
- Understanding of occupational hazards and safety precautions.
- Ability to perform minor repair, replacement, and maintenance tasks on heavy and light equipment.
- Ability to lift and move heavy equipment during shop maintenance.
- Understanding and execution of oral and written instructions.
- Proficiency with tools used in equipment repair.
- Ability to operate a personal computer, calculator, two‑way radio, and telephone.
- Steady hand and good hand‑eye coordination for disassembly, reassembly, and hand tools.
- Familiarity with parts and components of engines, transmissions, braking mechanisms, and complex systems.
- Know how to disassemble, work on, and reassemble machinery parts.
- Ability to identify mechanical and electronic problems, make repairs, and develop maintenance strategies.
- Familiar with electronic control systems and required tools for repair and maintenance.
- High school diploma or equivalent work experience.
- Automotive equipment repair and maintenance experience.
- 1 year or more experience as an assistant mechanic.
- ASE certification for diesel and other automotive service technicians is preferred but not required.
- Certification in specific repair areas (drive trains, electronic systems, preventive maintenance) is desirable. Mechanics must have 2 years of experience and pass one or more ASE exams; certificants must renew every 5 years.
- Excellent verbal, written, and customer‑relations skills.
- Computer skills, including Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel.
- Attention to detail, accuracy, and confidentiality.
- Active driver’s license.

Working Conditions:
Mechanics often lift heavy parts and tools, handle greasy or dirty equipment, and work in uncomfortable positions. Though cuts or burns are common, the work is generally not hazardous if workers follow safety precautions. Exposure to fumes, dust, mechanical hazards, and constant noise occurs. - Equipment Used:
Mechanics use computerized diagnostic equipment and a variety of power and machine tools such as pneumatic wrenches, lathes, grinding machines, and welding equipment. Hand tools include pliers, sockets, ratchets, and screwdrivers. Clear communication via person or two‑way radio is required. Mechanics must operate a motor vehicle and may need to test‑drive company equipment. - Essential Physical Tasks:
Verbal and written communication; standing; walking; squatting; stooping; sorting; twisting; sitting; kneeling; crawling; climbing; reading; decision making; reaching above shoulder level; pushing, pulling, lifting, and carrying up to 50 pounds; seeing; using both hands for precision tasks; clarity of hearing; fine finger manipulation.
