Ag Operations/Dispatch – Valley Wide Cooperative
The position of Operations / Dispatch is of great significance to Valley Agronomics. A person in this position is responsible for overseeing day‑to‑day operations of the facility while also developing and supporting relationships with the location’s customer base. A person in this position will assist in directing, promoting and coordinating operations in a manner that will optimize the safety program, efficiency, customer service, mission, and goals of the company.
This is a safety‑sensitive position.
- Schedule drivers and assign routes to maximize efficiency, productivity and customer service.
- Work closely with common carrier vendors to coordinate freight movements during peak season.
- Communicate tactfully and motivate employees.
- Ensure efficient use of manpower and equipment.
- Proactively communicate with customers, sales and location managers to determine transportation needs.
- Organize and prioritize loads depending on customer needs and resource availability.
- Enter assignment data in computer database, and notify drivers of assigned work.
- Document, organize and track equipment maintenance needs and schedule equipment as required.
- Ensure complete compliance with D.O.T. regulations.
- Work closely with the location managers, sales staff, and common carrier partners.
- Effectively communicate customer service and operational issues with the Location Manager in a timely manner.
- Document actions by completing forms, documents and required or assigned reports.
- Back‑up driver as needed and/or assigned.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- High school graduate or equivalent.
- Working knowledge of tractor–trailer trucks and liquid, curtain van, hopper bottom and pneumatic trailers.
- Knowledge of Federal and State Laws (Oregon & Washington) pertaining to trucking and hazardous material distribution.
- Two years of recent dispatching and/or driver supervision experience.
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both verbally and in writing.
- Skill in observing situations analytically and objectively and relaying details accurately.
- Promote and support a culture focused on safety.
- Knowledge of computer systems operations and associated software.
- Maintains positive behaviors, approaches, attitudes and commitments to interpersonal service in regard to customers, visitors and coworkers.
