Department Information

The Department of English and Modern Languages offer a B.A. in English. The degree is available online and on campus. This degree program fosters skills in close reading and analysis, research and writing, the synthesis of ideas, the study of genre, and exploring cultural and historical contexts in the interpretation of texts. Additionally, the department provides a minor in Spanish and offers courses in beginning Chinese to further enhance linguistic and cultural proficiency as well as a certificate in American Studies.

The position calls for an enthusiastic and committed educator to handle a 4/4 course load, primarily focused on composition studies, rhetoric, and writing. Each semester’s course load will include the general education Composition requirements, and may also include classes in Technical Writing, Advanced Composition, Rhetoric, Digital Narrative, and Nonfiction Writing. A PhD in English, Rhetoric and Composition, or a related field is required.

Candidates must have prior teaching experience. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in dual‑enrollment courses and distance learning. The ideal candidate will show an understanding of the department’s teaching mission and a dedication to service and scholarly pursuits.

Responsibilities
  • Full‑time, 10‑month contract; 4/4 teaching load with the possibility of summer teaching.
  • Deliver a variety of courses in the department according to interest and departmental needs in multiple formats including, but not limited to, online, hybrid, and face‑to‑face.
  • Provide dedicated advising and mentorship to students as assigned, fostering their academic and professional growth.
  • Demonstrate a strong commitment to service through active participation in departmental, University, and professional activities.
  • Actively engage in research and scholarly activities to contribute to the academic excellence of the department.
  • Other duties assigned by the Department Chair and Administration.
Required Qualifications
  • Doctorate (required; ABD considered), with 18 graduate hours in English by time of appointment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience teaching courses in first‑year composition.
  • Experience Teaching Dual Enrollment
  • Experience teaching in online and hybrid modalities.
  • Experience collaborating across disciplines.
  • Experience serving as an academic advisor.
  • Experience coordinating students in experiential learning opportunities, internships, and High Impact Practices (HIPs).
Proposed Salary

$60,000-$65,000
