We are seeking a skilled physicist to join our multidisciplinary team and contribute to the development of state‑of‑the‑art particle accelerator systems.
Job mission You will contribute to the development of particle accelerator systems and peripherals and their related applications with a multidisciplinary team of physicists and engineers. Your contribution will span from conceptual design to validation. The work includes calculations/simulations on (ion) sources, beam transport and modelling of electrostatic or magneto static components or other accelerator systems. Your output will be the input for our mechanics, electronics, software and test engineers with whom you will work closely during the design, manufacturing and testing phases.
Your role will encompass:
Design, test and optimize ion and electron beam technology for particle accelerators and their peripherals;
Explore and develop innovative applications for particle accelerators in scientific and industrial fields;
Generate scientific output, including research papers, and present findings to scientific communities through conferences, seminars, and publications;
Work closely with customers to customize systems according to their needs and provide expert support;
Prepare technical documentation, including test protocols, reports, and user manuals.
Requirements
Education:
Master’s or Ph.D. in Physics, Applied Physics, or a related field. A background in electrostatic particle accelerators is preferred;
At least 5 years of experience in the development of scientific equipment.
Personal skills Affinity or proven competence to combine academic background with the design and validation of industrial equipment;
Breadth of knowledge includes at least basics of mechanics and electronics allows bridging departments involved in the design;
Proficiency in experimental physics and data analysis tools;
Pro‑active attitude within the design and test team. Ability to steer, when needed;
Excellent problem‑solving and troubleshooting skills;
Strong communication and teamwork abilities;
Proficiency in English;
Dutch is a plus.
