Internship Objective This thesis internship focuses on researching how artificial intelligence (AI) can enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of project management within an industrial automation environment. Our new intern will analyze current project management practices and investigate how AI-driven tools and methods can support project managers, automate routine activities, and improve decision-making. The outcome of the internship is a practical, research-based roadmap for integrating AI into daily project workflows, aligned with Yokogawa’s values of reliability, safety, and long-term value creation.

Research Scope & Activities Study and document existing project management processes, including planning, scheduling, resource allocation, risk control, and reporting.

Identify challenges, bottlenecks, and improvement opportunities within current project execution practices.

Research AI technologies and data-driven approaches relevant to project management in industrial automation.

Analyze where and how AI can support project managers through predictive insights, decision support, and automation of repetitive tasks.

Develop and validate use cases for AI-enabled project management in collaboration with project teams.

Translate research findings into a structured and practical roadmap for AI adoption in daily project workflows.

Document results in a high-quality thesis report and present findings to internal stakeholders.

Develop practical experience in applying AI and data analytics to real-world business and engineering challenges.

Required Background and skills

Bachelor’s or Master’s student in Engineering, Industrial Automation, Project Management, Data Science, or a related field.

Strong interest in and familiarity with artificial intelligence, digital transformation, and project management.

Analytical mindset with a structured and research-oriented working approach.

Ability to work independently while collaborating with multidisciplinary project teams.

Basic knowledge of project management methodologies and tools.

Interest in industrial automation, control systems, or digital solutions.

Good communication and documentation skills.
