Assistant Professor in the Department of Statistics at Iowa State University

The Department of Statistics at Iowa State University seeks a tenure-track assistant professor with expertise in statistics and data science. The successful candidate will develop and sustain a high-quality and high-impact research program, successfully compete for external funding, and collaborate with world-class researchers at Iowa State in statistics and other disciplines. Further, the successful candidate will engage in professional and institutional service, teach undergraduate students, and teach and advise graduate students in one of the first and largest statistics graduate programs in the country.

Required

Minimum Qualifications:

– A Ph.D. or equivalent degree in statistics or a closely related discipline.

Preferred Qualifications:

– Foundational knowledge of statistics and data science.
– Expertise in one or more areas of statistics and data science, including but not limited to causal inference, functional data analysis, predictive inference, and statistical computing.
– The ability to teach statistics and data science courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
– The ability to develop and sustain a high-impact research program with the potential to secure external research funding.
– The ability to collaborate effectively with researchers in other disciplines.

Department Information:
The Department of Statistics at Iowa State University has a rich tradition of developing quantitative methods for researchers in a broad range of scientific and engineering disciplines. The doctoral program in Statistics is ranked as one of the top programs in the country, graduating about 15 PhD students annually. The program currently has around 100 graduate students, 100 undergraduate majors, and 40 faculty.

Faculty and students have traditionally maintained strong collaborations across campus. The Statistics Department is located in Snedecor Hall, which received an extensive renovation in 2009. The Department of Statistics is jointly administered by the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS) and the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences (LAS).
