Assistant Professor in Forensic Statistics

The Department of Statistics in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at Iowa State University invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor, beginning August 16, 2019. This faculty position will also be affiliated with the Center for Statistics and Applications in Forensic Evidence (CSAFE). Duties include teaching undergraduate and graduate level courses; graduate student advising;

professional and institutional service; developing and sustaining a high-impact research program that can successfully compete for external funding; and participating in collaborative research with researchers in other disciplines. The successful candidate will have basic and/or collaborative research experience or potential in statistics research related to the forensic sciences.

Required:

A Ph.D. or equivalent degree in statistics or a closely related discipline.
Preferred:
Experience that demonstrates the ability to teach statistics classes at all levels and more general data science classes at the undergraduate level. Experience and/or expertise directly related or relevant to applications in the forensic sciences. Experience and/or expertise in areas of statistical inference related to data science and/or computational statistics. Experience that demonstrates the potential to secure research funding, to carry out high-quality research in statistics, and to publish research results in top-tier journals.

Experience that demonstrates the potential to participate in collaborative research efforts with researchers in other disciplines.
The doctoral program in Statistics is ranked as one of the top programs in the country and produces about 15 PhD graduates annually. The program currently has about 140 graduate students, 100 undergraduate majors, and 38 faculty. The Center for Statistics and Applications in Forensic Evidence (CSAFE) is an academic center reporting to the Vice President for Research, and is affiliated with the Department of Statistics.

CSAFE specializes in statistical research to advance scientifically sound forensic analysis in the judicial system. Further information about the department and center can be found at
