We are seeking a support person for a young man in a home program in Amherst. He enjoys hiking, biking, snowshoeing, and volunteering on local farms. He requires support and supervision to continue being successful in the community. Experience with disabilities required. Must be able to work well both independently and as a team player.
ResponsibilitiesAs an AWC Family Support Advocate you will provide help with activities of daily living (eating and going out into the community) with socialization and engagement as priorities. Your day may include time spent in the community, at the home or any other location that both the member and family deem appropriate as you help the member navigate areas of importance such as hobbies, activities or interests in addition to providing guidance around needed life skills.
Some afternoon and evening hours are required.
- At least 18 years old with High school diploma or equivalent
- Life or work experience with individuals with developmental or intellectual disabilities, preferably ASD
- Ability to use a computer to enter case notes; communicate by email, video conferencing, etc.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information
- Be able to handle emergency situations
- Have certification in CPR/First Aid or ability to be certified
- Valid driver’s license, safe driving record, availability of private vehicle, up-to-date car insurance
- CORI, SORI, DPPC and National Fingerprint Check
