Position: Shop Volunteer (Till & Customer Service )

Shop Volunteer (Till & Customer Service - Ammanford)

Your local British Red Cross shop offers volunteers a range of activities, from sorting stock and preparing donated items for sale to providing excellent customer service to donors and customers.

We are currently looking for Till and Customer Service volunteers to support our shop.

If you have a positive outlook, enjoy speaking to new people and are confident in learning how to use a shop till, then this may be for you.

Till and Customer Service - typical activities:

  • Using the shop till to take payment for items
  • Promoting Gift Aid to maximise our fundraising potential
  • Helping and advising customers
  • Undertaking general activities in the shop

No experience is needed. Full training will be provided.

When can I volunteer?

A few hours during the week or weekend, as agreed with the shop manager. There is no minimum commitment or fixed hours; we only ask that we agree on hours you can attend and that you inform us of any changes.

What you will be doing

  • Creating exciting window displays
  • Sorting donations for sale in the shop
  • Assisting customers on the shop floor
  • Using the till

The skills you need

  • No previous experience needed
  • A warm smile and friendly outlook
  • Complete training (provided) prior to starting

What's in it for you

  • Meet new people and be part of an inclusive team
  • Gain or share retail experience
  • Great chance to develop existing skills or learn new ones
  • Reasonable pre‑agreed travel expenses for the role, including training
  • Opportunity to be part of the world’s largest humanitarian organisation and make a positive difference to people's lives

Diversity is something we celebrate. We want you to bring your authentic self to the Red Cross and feel that you belong.

We welcome refugees, asylum seekers and others currently in the UK to volunteer with us. Volunteering is accessible to everyone.

Health and Safety Statement

We take an individual approach to ensuring your safety. We may ask you to complete a simple risk assessment and discuss any restrictions that may still be in place in your region, identifying any adjustments you may need.

As we take great care to ensure all volunteers are safe and supported, there may be some locations where we won’t be able to host 15‑17 year olds. Please get in touch so that we can help you find a suitable volunteering opportunity.

In our shops, every day is different. While we adapt to the flow of donations and customers, we always need volunteers to spread kindness.
