Summary. The Unit Coordinator/Monitor Tech at North Mississippi Health Services plays a vital role in medical record maintenance, patient care, secretarial/clerical/administrative tasks, inventory control, and communication within the nursing unit. They demonstrate strong leadership skills and prioritize work assignments, effectively handling various responsibilities to contribute to a safe patient environment. The role involves interpreting rhythms and patterns from monitoring devices and reporting relevant information to the RN/CN, ensuring timely and accurate patient care.

JOB

Functions Medical Record Information
  • Maintains the medical record at unit level to assure timely and accurate access to pertinent patient data.
  • Shreds discarded patient information every shift.
Patient Care
  • Performs routine tasks within an assigned patient unit under the supervision of a nurse.
Secretarial/Clerical/Administrative
  • Prepares, compiles, and maintains unit records and reports to facilitate quality performance of functions.
  • Documents as appropriate.
Inventory Control
  • Maintains and monitors unit supplies to assure adequate availability of budgeted resources.
Communications
  • Facilitates unit communications including telephones, intercom, and computer, relays information as appropriate.
  • Reports patient information such as abnormal vital signs and patient condition to RN/LPN.
Customer Relations
  • Projects caring, friendly, and helpful image to patients and other customers.
  • Performs duties assigned to meet personal needs and comfort of patients.
  • Interprets rhythms and patterns and reports to RN/CN.
Qualifications Education

High School Diploma or GED Equivalent. Preferred.

Licenses and Certifications

CPR – Cardiac Pulmonary Resuscitation.

Work Experience

Must complete SCM training; successfully complete basic ECG monitoring requirements within 3 months of employment; complete unit coordinator orientation; operate fax machines, laser printers, and central monitors; meet continuing education requirements; maintain knowledge and resources necessary to provide care for neonate, infants, pediatrics, adolescents, adults, and geriatric; recognize changes in patient condition and report appropriately.
